I went to an old bike dealership here in Tennessee and talked to two old bike techs that are semi retired. I went in to show them my alternator(650c1) and ask them how to wire it. We got to talking about my KZ1000B3 I rode in on. They said the 900/1000s were dogs compared to the 650/750s. I will agree my 650 is as fast as my 1000 but the 1000 has a full fairing and bags and trunk. TJ the younger one(about 45-50) said his 750 was faster than the drag bike the other tech had built and the second man agreed. I was going to build my 650 as a cafe racer but might drop the idea of mildly tuning it. They said it was cheaper to build a screaming 810 than to mess with welding the crank and such in a 900/1000. Any one have info on dollars per horse power?

And the wind blew and the shit flew and I could't see for a day or two :woohoo:

I have

kz1000b3, it even had a cigar ligter on it. daily rider for hmmm 20 years rode it in high school (dads old bike but i rode it more he got a harley sportser to get a lighter bike for just cruising) need to restore it bad.

kz650c1 had restored but a lady hit me and then it burned, fixing now ( wife is pissed, it is in the kitchen)

Gn125Z for around hixson and redbank

ok not running or parts

kz1000j missing pieces
gs550
gs550
kz1000j WRECKED

and i have parts out the butt all ready.

What they were telling me was to restore/ride the 1000b3 and since i was going to fix my 650c1 any way it would be cheaper to but a screaming 650 than to fool with a 1000 or even a 1000 in a 650 frame. I have several complete 650/750 engine also ready. I have a 700 shaft I think but it was hit in the rear and most likely not good. I have a motorcycle junk yard I am helping to clean up also that I am picking thur. Jamups said it was not worth messing with the old bikes (1000s, i mean building a screamer) and if i needed an engine just go get a complete one from Willie's and ride it until it dies and then get another one.

Does the crank need to be welded? Yes or no? As it is I will have to send what ever I build to Pitstop to have it bored as no one here will stand behind any thing less than a 3in bore.

Kz900/1000 need the frames braced, different swing arm for a wider tire(new bikes have traction control). The 650/750 can have a 6 speed just by swapping parts from a KZ550/zx600(kz650info). The 650 is lighter. No one here will weld a crank saying the plain bearing engines are stronger and there is no money in it. I will have to send that out also. You have to pull the engine out to service any thing if you place a 1000 in a 650 frame.

theres plenty of unbraced kz 900/1000 frames out there, the swingarm swap is a good idea on any 70s motorcycle.
if the crank is straight, its not very hard to check welding it is not rocket science to do.
never had a spun bearing on 900/1000
check the price of machining a crank, new bearings, resizing both ends of stock rods, new rod bolts i can kind of see why they say theres no money in welding a crank for $75.00!
