How fast can a 750 go?
17 Aug 2010 06:31
For most this will sound rediculous but for me this is what I want to do. I currently have a 1981 KZ750, that is a semi cafe-racer, and I have way too many speeding tickets to count. Speed is addicting and I've decided I want to build the KZ into a salt flat bike or atleast something of that, not necessarily a streamliner but just fast as hell. Does anyone know the current 750cc, naturally aspirated and air cooled land record? And how fast have you have your 750 up to? I have done roughly 140-150mph with a close to stock bike exception of shocks, no baffled exhaust, and 1 tooth down on rear sprocket

140 to 150 sounds like a stretch to me from a stock 750 unless its a turbo. Thats working a 900/1000 pretty hard to.
I have had my stock KZ650 just over 100 and that was a hairy ride. I have had my 900 up to about 130 and that was working the crap out of it.
Not sure of the land speed record for that bike but you could probably check it out online I would think.
Ride safe and keep the handlebars up

Lorcan (a member here) has a GPz750 (highly modified to 810cc, maybe more, and a turbo kit) and has pushed his to 211 mph. Bone stock would be considerably less.

Yes i know its sounds like a stretch but believe my I'm not trying to boost my ego or anything like that. I rode next to my buddy who has an 07 zzr6 and we took off on the highway and cruised at highspeeds for a while. Afterwards I asked him what we were doing and he replied that i was keeping up with him at about 140 but not much more. Thats also with no baffles so exhaust breathes alot better at high rpms, and believe it was very high rpms. about 10.5k - 11krpms screaming and smoking. piston rings are about done i think. I would really like to see what I can change and just how fast I can get her to go.

Many GPS units can record a maximum speed. You could carry one in your pocket, with the batteries well charged, and not even have to hook up any wiring to your battery. Perhaps even borrow one from somebody. This would be an easy way to get a very accurate speed.

140 is out there for sure. I know a stock, new KZ750 will exceed 120 and a stock KZ650 will run at right around 120 (having watch a KZ750 walk away from me when i was going an indicated 120 on my KZ650 back in the day). Regarding how fast can a modified KZ750 go; here's the scoop:

My bone stock (and mostly original except tires) 1980 750 LTD was up to 95 this past weekend. Then it started to wobble. Talk about having to change your underwear...

not trying to make it sound like i have the best kz750 out there by any means, thats just what my buddy said his speedo was reading at the time, and it could've been wrong. I'm just trying to find out what would be a good goal to set as far as speed wise for a modified, N/A (no turbo), kz750

a warmed over kz1000 with a header and a little tweaking has a hard time cracking 140 with stock gearing,i dont care what anybody says.
ive done 145 according to a vette speedo next to me on a hot rodded 1170,im here to tell ya kzs are aerodynamically challenged at the speed with a body strapped on them to say the least! :woohoo:
