That's right on par with my high speed findings as well, to a tee. The big bikes fight the wind ferociously. But... when I ducked down the cbr was eaten up fairly quickly.a warmed over kz1000 with a header and a little tweaking has a hard time cracking 140 with stock gearing,i dont care what anybody says.
ive done 145 according to a vette speedo next to me on a hot rodded 1170,im here to tell ya kzs are aerodynamically challenged at the speed with a body strapped on them to say the least! :woohoo:

Yes i know its sounds like a stretch but believe my I'm not trying to boost my ego or anything like that. I rode next to my buddy who has an 07 zzr6 and we took off on the highway and cruised at highspeeds for a while. Afterwards I asked him what we were doing and he replied that i was keeping up with him at about 140 but not much more. Thats also with no baffles so exhaust breathes alot better at high rpms, and believe it was very high rpms. about 10.5k - 11krpms screaming and smoking. piston rings are about done i think. I would really like to see what I can change and just how fast I can get her to go.

there have been a few 750's that would do 190 every lap and handle the twisties too....lap after lap..on a single tank of gas....

Best advice is to get a SCTA or ECTA rule book before you start working on a land speed bike project.
Listed below are a few of the 2009 Bonneville 750cc records for classes you might end up running.
750cc Production Class - 174.622
750cc A/G - 171.550 (gas class)
750cc A/F - 167.824 (Fuel class)
750cc A/BG- 180.948 (Blown gas with NOS, turbo or blower)
750cc A/BF- 200.624 (Blown fuel with NOS turbo or blower)
750cc APS/G-211.591 (gas, Partially Streamlined)
750cc APS/F-208.614 (Fuel, Partially Streamlined)
750cc APS/BG- 212.404 (Blown gas Partially Streamlined)
750cc APS/BF- 218.956 (Blown Fuel Partially Streamlined)
Good luck and hope to see you on the salt in 2011.

I have an app on my DROID called My Tracks. I set it before I leave and put it in my pocket. When I am done, I can even upload the route I took to Google Maps. Many GPS units can record a maximum speed. You could carry one in your pocket, with the batteries well charged, and not even have to hook up any wiring to your battery. Perhaps even borrow one from somebody. This would be an easy way to get a very accurate speed.
After the run, it will tell you:
Total Time
Time Moving (takes out stops like gas)
Average speed
Distance
Top Speed (71mph on my morning commute, woo hoo)
Though if it loses GPS signal, it can go wonky. One time my average speed was 140mph. When I looked at the route, I saw that it must have lost signal for a moment and it put me 3 towns over for about 10 seconds. So it factors distance and time to get average speed, as my top speed was still in the 70s.

the 750's that do 211 are heavy duty single purpose straightline bikes often...
Mine was a road bike. It had lights, ran on petrol, was stock wheelbase (+2"), road tyres, started on the button and could easily be ridden to the pub, or anywhere. It also ran 9.2 quarter miles with nothing more than a change of gearing, but that didn't make it a dragbike...
