his bike next to mine is huge...it's taller...its bigger...it's lighter....it's more powerful....but with it's bigger proportions they could not forsee leaving a small gap under the seat to stash stuff...they also figured it would be an awesome bike to hit the downtown sceene with...but yamaha in it's wisdom wants you to have to carry your girls helmet as well as yours so you can fit the image of a toatl f-ing squid tool...

not to worry when my bikes around he politely asks to use my EXTRA helmet locking hook....progress...you gotta love it......

p.s...the 2008 fZ1 is probably the best standard bike made today......it is one mean mutha....and the running gear is flawless top notch rising sun goods...cept the pegs...you must ride one to believe the smooth endlees motor imo

I have only been riding for about 3 years. Bought the KZ and have it all fixed up for about $850., and absolutely love the bike. I like the KZ because of the general appearance, the In-line 4 cylinder, 4 carbs, the dual overhead cams, the exhaust styling, comfortable seating position, availability of parts, etc.

Did a demo ride on a 2008 Kawasaki Z1000 and really liked the engine performance, riding position, handling, etc. Was not too impressed with the appearance. I expect the new Z1000 would perform wonderfully, but I do not care for the styling at all. From the looks of the CB1100, it is by far my favorite.

But when I ask if any of these bikes would give me $10,000 more enjoyment over my present motorcycle, I cannot justify the extra cost. I believe that we KZ Riders have discovered a unique motorcycle, that yields a great deal of riding pleasure, for a minimum cost.

I also believe that most of the buying public, does not know of our older bikes, and has little appreciation for such a design because they have no exposure to the good old days. This translates into a soft market for such items. There are so many choices, although few really good ones, that it would be extremely difficult to truly revolutionize a particular style. But it would really do my heart good if Kawasaki took a stab at it with a comparable model to the CB1100. Hope they do !

I believe that most of us are here on this sight because of;
1) The particular stiling of 1973-83 KZ bikes.
2) These bikes are VINTAGE
3) These bikes are Air Cooled transverse fours.
4) The legacy behind these bikes, which has few rivals.
5) We can personalize them to fit our tastes.
6) These bikes are indestructible and timeless.
7) A KZ WILL RUN FOR EVER.
8) We wont settle for anything less than the total Resurrection of the KZ stile of bike.

Personally I find the price of new bikes outrageous. I can build TWO KZs just the way I want them for less than the price of one new bike.

exactly what i've been saying all along i have been a professional motorcycle mechanic for over 20 years now i have riden almost every model of bike out there at least once so i have an informed opinion i have something good to say about almost every bike in fact i have never completly disliked any bike they all have there place. it just that what attracted me to the kz line was the performance that could be acheived and how individualized each one of these bikes could be made. i have found bikes that do certain things better but overall it always comes back to my kz's as being the perfect bike for me. and i have always love the look of the 72-81 kz's. as otto said i can build at least two bikes the way i want them to be for the price of a new bike but that doesn't a zx14 isn't in my future gotta have the power.

I just wish they'd haul out the designs for the Z1 and start stamping them out again.

I'm sure it performs well, but compared to the flowing lines of a KZ it looks like an exoskeletal insect.

i could not agree more...but if you get within touching distance of a 910 or 1090 or even the 750 early ones.....it is amazing...the quality of components and the fit and finish is not like any other naked-streetfighter-handlebar type bike.....it flows up close..believe me...they are stunning....and i hate the bugeyed monster types myself alot......650ed wrote:

I can't believe anyone would buy new with the price difference between a couple years old and showroom floor. I'm with Otakar.

I am about forced to buy new just for the reasons mentioned. I not only "don't care for" most peoples "mods", I just plain can't have them on any motorcycle, truck or car I own. I'd rather spend $20,000 new. Look at any forum, I don't care if it's motorcycle, car, truck, or what, 90% of all talk is how to modify, so that right there makes 90% of all vehicals worth zilch to me, then out of the 10% left, 1% of guys take care of them to where I would pay anything, so all in all whithin a couple years that leaves about 1 in 1000 vehicals I would consider buying.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
