MAC Exhaust was created by Bluemeanie
I was screwing around on the computor looking at different bike exhausts and came across something interesting. We've been chatting about V&H, Kerker, and MAC and I found that the MAC factory is 6 miles from where I live! Not a big deal but went for a ride today (5 days of rain and a new back tire so had to go) and found it. No big signs or anything but there it was in all it's ill fitting glory! Wonder if I can get a factory direct discount on a chrome system? ;)

Hey,that's a good idea! Especially if I tell them that I belong to KZR and members are interested in how their product is manufactured. I'll check their hours and see if I can do something! :)

Well how cool is that! :cheer:
Definitely worth looking into....

If you could, see if they have any exhaust components such as 4 to 1 collectors.... 1.5" ID for 1.5" OD Primary piping....

Do they just sell the header only?

Well since you've opened it up...

Anyone with MAC experience like to share their thoughts on Pro's/Cons, tun-abilities, baffle options, installation issues, oil filter/drain plug considerations, long wear, customer service etc...

i have been dealing with MAC for a few years now. They are great to deal with. they will sell you anything you want. They will mix and match any way you want. I just told them what i wanted and they sent it to me that way. They may be made cheap but they are inexpensive enough to be affordable for replacement every few years. The pipes actually are made quite well and they are tuned extremely well, the only thing that is lacking is the finish. Personally I love them and I will not knock them. I bought three and so what if the black paint peals off the header in a season. That is why they sell hi temp paint and that is cheap. I LOVE the way the cannister muffler set up sounds. The Megaphone muffler one sounds too much like a Kirker to me. i give MAC a solid B+ for price sound and performance. If the chrome was first rate I would give them an A+. That is my three pennies.

definitly a good pipe for the money everybody wants the vance or a kerker, but i have never seen a dyno shootout that actually gave hard numbers to make informed decision with so if price is important i would not hesitate to use a mac. and if paint is an issue send it out and get it ceramic coated it will hold up just fine. i myself am not bothered that i may have to paint an exhaust system every couple of years or so. use good quality exhaust paint and prep it properly and it will look good for a while. but keep in mind it wont last forever, the paint job that is.

So far, seems as though the chroming flaking off is the only issue.... Well hell, paint is cheap enough...

Now as much as I like the re-chroming or specifically ceramic coating idea, you're pretty much in the Kerker range plus pricing....

TB, what kind of pricing would cermic dipping cost... gestimates?

otakar, this one would concern me unless of course I'm miss understanding....

"They may be made cheap but they are inexpensive enough to be affordable for replacement every few years."

Replacement due to chrome/paint flaking or something else such as metal splitting, exhaust leakage, rust, rotting etc....

In researching, these pipes go for roughly $350... Pretty much the same as V&H... If I had to replace every couple of years, why not just go Kerker for the additional $150 and longevity...

As for all the Megaphone series pipes, regardless of who makes them, due to the design of the exhaust and for the header designs and lengths being almost identical... I'd believe they all will sound very similar... Yes/No?

I've never had one so can't speak from experience...

I'll see if I can find some you-tube sound tracks of the MAC on a KZ for comparisons...

I was at the MAC sight and came across garage talk. In the motorcycle section someone asked if rejetting would be required and the response was "Rejetting is not required unless you want more performance". Uh, other than sound isn't that one of the reasons you would install such a system? Also found this (I think someone mentioned it) "As business grew so did the need for machinery and space. We decided to build a new manufacturing facility next to our existing one, and we converted the old building to warehouse space. We started building private label exhaust systems for Formula Fords, Custom Cobra Exhaust, Bettendorf Racing, JBA, and Motorcycle for Yoshimura." Interesting.....

Mac are good for torque. I have one and every once in a while it is installed on a bike. A lot of grunt with those pipes.

My Kerkers are a lot bigger at the collector. I guess that is why there is more torque than the kerker.
