$0

The crooks in Austin have not yet realized that they do not tax boxes of parts that have the potential to be a planet destroying motorcycle.
Our other (running models) cost $43.80 per year, plus the $14.50 per year "safety inspection" tax.

In MI I pay about $35/bike. Be careful about "Historic" or classic plates - here they are only valid for "show and display" use - and you can get a very heavy fine if caught driving to work with them. Some risk it, but I know of several areas where the Sherrifs are on the lookout for them.

IMHO - not worth the risk!

I know the plates in Wisconsin for Collector (unmodified vehicle) or Hobbyist (modified from original look/specs) are valid for driving anywheres you like. They just require that you have a vehicle of a certain age and that you maintain registration on a "primary" vehicle (which I would have to with the weather we get in the Winter here anyways).

They are pricey, though. There's a $50 issuance fee plus two years registration (actually only one registration fee for cycles since we register them for two years). So for $75 I'd have to be certain I'd have to bike for 4 years to make any return on investment. :-)

And they don't appear to affect insurance premiums either, as the insurance companies never ask for the registration info on the vehicle, just the VIN. For some f'd up reason my bike was originally registered off the crankcase stamp and not the frame stamp, still trying to understand that one.

In Oregon, registration is $30/2-years. So $15 per.

After reading this thread, I checked out the info on "collector" plates.

Here, they have two versions. There is an "Antique" plate, which the website shows a cost of $3. But this is only for vehicles mfr'd before 1954.

There is also a "Special Interest" plate. But the restrictions on this plate state:

This plate is issued to a vehicle that is maintained as a collector’s item and is at least 25 years old at the time of application, a vehicle sanctioned as a vehicle of special interest by an established organization that provides for recognition, or is a street rod as defined by ORS 801.513. This plate is also issued to a vehicle that is a racing activity vehicle as defined in Oregon law. Vehicles may only be used for exhibitions, parades, club activities and similar uses.

The fee for this plate is also $3. But though it doesn't state specifically on the website, it appears that having one of these plates does not exempt you from registration fees. If that is the case, I don't see the benefit of having them.

In any case, right now at $15/yr, I really don't care.
