According to Seafoam, the preferred way is to introduce the product through the carbs. That way it helps clean the gunk off the backs of the valves as well. Here's a link to the applicabel page on the seafoam website. Also, if you run a YouTube search on Seafoam, you'll find a lot of DIY videos. Great smokeshows!

Restore makes multiple products. Are you speaking of the one that is the very viscous "Motor Honey" Like STP oil treatment. If so, Than by NO means put that in your engine. Your compression will go up but the spring back on the rings will not be able to scrape it from the Cylinder walls and you will burn oil like crazy. This is why I use the Rislone "engine Treatment" and not the "Oil Treatment".That is also the extremely viscous engine honey. It will make your bike smoke like crazy and the clutch will slip.

The Restore stuff I used in that old Chevy was a little thinner STP, but it had some dark particulate matter in it (maybe graphite) that supposedly filled in scratches and closed up excessive clearances. At least that's what the commercials said anyway. But when I used it, it occured to me that this particulate matter was probably just clogging up my oil filter.
Funny thing about that old Chevy, it had so many miles on it, the timing chain actually stretched far enough to wear a hole through the timing cover. So I put another timing chain and cover on it, along with a set of reconditioned heads I bought for thirty bucks, and it ran great, for a while. Soon the rings couldn't handle the pressures the new heads were producing and it started burning oil REAL bad.

There are a lot of products out there which have all kinds of solids suspended in them. As you say, "It just gets removed by the oil filter" If you use any oil additive, you want to use something that has a viscosity of the same or lower # than the oil you are using, and no suspended particulates. These bikes do not like heavy oil contrary to popular belief. The heavy oil is not scraped from the cylinder walls by the wiper and scraper rings and it just gets burned. The best oil to use is something of very good quality and no higher than 30 weight. I run 5W-30 Synthetic with "Lucas" Synthetic oil stabilizer and "Rislone" added. I change my oil every 10,000mi or the end of the year which ever comes first. Obviously I top it off as required and add Seafoam every few hundred miles.

Does Seafoam have a distinct smell when added to the tank and out the tail pipe? If so does it smell kind of like rotten eggs or sulfur?...Russ
