Sea Foam question was created by kd7enm
I have heard people rave about Sea Foam. I know most people put some in the gas tank and some in the oil, but I was wondering if you could just pour some directly onto the pistons through the spark plug holes? Just wondering if letting it sit in there overnight would hurt anything? I have a lot of nasty black crap in there, and I'd like to figure out how to clean it up without tearing the engine apart.

Yes you can do it with nothing but positive effects. There is another product however which is better. Chrysler makes a combustion chamber cleaner which is the best and it is in a spray can. Just start the engine and let it get hot. Than remove the plugs and spray it into tha combustion chamber libraly and replace the plugs. allow to sit overnight, and than take it on the express way and run the day-lights out of it. I run a combination of Lucas and seafoam in EVERY gas tank. I put in 1oz/gal seafoam and 2.5oz/10gal of lucas. This will always keep the chambers clean.

The Chrysler "Combustion Chamber Cleaner" is Mopar Part #04318001AB. I just went into the shop and checked.

I use "Ring Free" a Yamaha product to clean the upper cylinders. It's great stuff. You will feel a noticable diffrence.

Jeff Saunders told me about it several years ago. He had a friend tell him about how good it was and jeff tried it on a bike that had been sitting and he was amazed. (His Words)

Not really a rebuild, but it will keep your combustion chambers, plugs and valves cleaner. We all know how bad the piston crowns and chambers can get in these bikes due to the valve seal design. The Mopar product works very well to do a quick clean. If the chambers are real bad you can do it a few times in a row. To maintain clean chambers than the Lucas/Seafoam combo is very good. This combo will also clean the chambers over a period of time if you start out with them fowled. The Mopar product can be gotten quite cheaply, sometimes for as little as $2.50 a can, including postage. The Lucas product is also very cheap. Because I run it in all of my vehicles, I buy it by the Gallon. Dependent on where you buy it it costs about $23/Gal +-. At 2-3oz/10Gal it lasts a long time. For my Dodge van which has a 36gal tank, I put 8oz. In my bike I put a 2oz bottle of 1oz of Lucas and 1oz of Seafoam for every 5Gal of fill-up, to maintain a clean chamber. to first clean the chambers I make that 5oz of Seafoam for about three four tanks. Than I cut down to the one oz., always maintaining the same amount of Lucas. I always also maintain a 20% mix of Rislone in my crankcase, to keep the oil system clean. I add about 4oz of Seafoam every 500mi. Seafoam will evaporate from the crankcase, so you will not over do it at that rate.

I found that SeaFoam did a better job of keeping the gas fresh in the tank over the past winter than Stabil ever did. Is it a cure all? No. but it does have a positive impact if gas gets a bit stale or the carb begins to foul as running SeaFoam through has cleared it right up in my experience. If nothing else it helps prolong gas quality in infrequently used powersports equipment.

I love the stuff. I swear by it. Along with the full line of Lucas products and "Rislone Engine Treatment" Do not use "Oil Treatment" it is way to viscous.

Anyone have an opinion on the "Restore" oil additive?

I used the Restore stuff a long time ago, in a Chevy pickup with about 400k miles on it. Because I was so curious about it I checked the compression before I put it in, then after.
The stuff did raise my cylinder pressures a little, and I did feel a little more power. But that goes away as soon as you change the oil again without putting more Restore in it.

I personally would never use it in my KZ1000 though. I have no idea what would happen to a wet clutch with that in the oil. I don't think I want to find out.

Restore makes multiple products. Are you speaking of the one that is the very viscous "Motor Honey" Like STP oil treatment. If so, Than by NO means put that in your engine. Your compression will go up but the spring back on the rings will not be able to scrape it from the Cylinder walls and you will burn oil like crazy. This is why I use the Rislone "engine Treatment" and not the "Oil Treatment".That is also the extremely viscous engine honey. It will make your bike smoke like crazy and the clutch will slip.
