Well, there's a surprise - I just checked my '78 KZ650 and guess what - "Made in the USA" right there on the steering tube!

In its KHI (Kawasaki Heavy Industries) Lincoln, Nebraska plant, I believe Kawasaki started production with the 1976 KZ900 models, using pre-assembled engines from Japan, and the VIN tag saying MFD. Kawasaki Motors Corp. U.S.A. . At least that's what it says on my 1976 KZ900-B1 LTD, and which I've always enjoyed pointing out to the Harley crowd. :laugh:

If made in USA vin starts with "5" if Japan "2". Roy
