If curious, look at the VIN tag (right-hand side of frame neck most visible with handlebars turned fully left), and notice what it says about the source of manufacture. Am guessing it will be either U.S.A. or Japan, but not both.
In its KHI (Kawasaki Heavy Industries) Lincoln, Nebraska plant, I believe Kawasaki started production with the 1976 KZ900 models, using pre-assembled engines from Japan, and the VIN tag saying MFD. Kawasaki Motors Corp. U.S.A. . At least that's what it says on my 1976 KZ900-B1 LTD, and which I've always enjoyed pointing out to the Harley crowd. :laugh:
