There's a guy here in Omaha that has one. I've only got this picture of the tank, though.

Am liking the LTD style "stepped" seat, but uncertain whether it was oem on this model.

To my eye, it's a handsome desireable motorcycle, and I would be proud to own and ride it.

Good Luck! :)

Yes the LTD seat came standard with this bike, the rear Vetter cargo box was an add on, the Vetter bags were std.

It's not that there is anything wrong with those bikes, I put a ton of miles on a 78 1000A2 equipped with a Vetter and an LTD seat. It just seems that every so often these bikes pop up for sale and the seller always has the opinion that the bike is worth huge money to collectors, which it isn't. Strangely enough the 78 Z1R which they made about 17,000 of and could hardly sell when new, now command really strong money when a pristine one comes on the market. Proving that rare does not always mean valuable.

I must say that I much prefer the look of this bike than the newer "full dresser" type Voyagers, etc. It looks clean and functional - has enough clearance to go around corners and is probably comfortable enough for two-up cruising.

If I were in the market for a long-haul cruiser, this is exactly the style I would be looking for. If I find one for less than $1,000 - I might even make an offer on it!

I might sit on that awhile. I certainly wouldn't change it. These old bikes are really just starting to be appreciated. 10 years ago a KZ900 wouldn't get much look. But today they draw a crowd. That bike might have a place in history one day. I bet 60 are not left. I also think that the American Kawasaki's might get a premium someday. I know one thing it wont go down in value...Russ

I would also keep it and keep it in original condition. All in all I'd say nice bike and you can't go wrong unless you start chopping and customizing. Sweet ride and an attention getter AND I believe it's value will go up. I'd hit it!

If curious, look at the VIN tag (right-hand side of frame neck most visible with handlebars turned fully left), and notice what it says about the source of manufacture. Am guessing it will be either U.S.A. or Japan, but not both.

In its KHI (Kawasaki Heavy Industries) Lincoln, Nebraska plant, I believe Kawasaki started production with the 1976 KZ900 models, using pre-assembled engines from Japan, and the VIN tag saying MFD. Kawasaki Motors Corp. U.S.A. . At least that's what it says on my 1976 KZ900-B1 LTD, and which I've always enjoyed pointing out to the Harley crowd.

Good Luck! :)

My 1976 KZ900-B1 LTD has the same side covers it came with when I purchased it brand new.

Just now pulled the side covers and inspected the raised lettering on the inside surfaces.

The right side cover says "Made in Japan."

The left side cover says "Made in U.S.A."

Couldn't see underside of the duck tail.

Please don't tell the Harley crowd.

Good Luck! :)
