eBay KZ - Speedo not correct??

This 76 KZ900 has a 140mph speedo with the blue kph scale under the mph - this isn't correct is it? I didn't think they added the kph until years later. The seller claims the mileage to be original too...:dry:

is that a 650 set up??? should the tach redline at 9 i thought a kz900 is 8.5...140 speedo...is a 650 speedo right...clean bike from what i saw....

Mine redlines at 9 grand. Maybe the Canadian Version had both KM/MPH someone will know.Is that exhaust correct also?...Russ

9000rpm was right for the 900, but the speedo is a 1979 KZ650 most likely. I don't think the paint is original either.

Looks like KZ650 gages and idiot lights to me. Also, notice how the front brake hose has been routed between the gage cluster and the center of the tree; probably done when the front end was cobbled together after a crash

I was thinking 79 650 or 750 twin. The 1000's and the 650's added the blue kph scale in '79.

I also thought the paint might not be original - I don't think there were stripes on the side covers and not sure about the color either. Pipes look aftermarket too. Probably not quite as original as advertised. The mileage is the real concern in my mind.

Also wrong bars of course and wrong turn signals fitted pointing all funky directions, no grab rail. Chances are had a fairing and sissy bar at one time so probably all wrong hardware attaching the turn signals is why they don't point right. Also the blue rings on both the speedo and tach indicate both were off the 1979 KZ650 most likely. It's had a little rougher life that what it would appear at first glance.

if you look at the stain on the countershaft cover it doesn't look like the carbs were gone thru as he say's at least not very well.

Forget the speedo. How can this idiot claim all matching parts when the exhaust is obviously aftermarket? 76 KZ900's had the 4/4 system. Whatever on this bike isn't even a retrofitted KZ100 system, either.

Probably been crashed, front end and pipes replaced on the cheap.

If you look down at the Q&A section, people have called him on it and the seller is backpedaling/blameshifting rapidly. Must be a Democrat.

I sent the seller the second comment that is listed in his ad. The blue I was referring to is the blue ring on the outer portion of the face.

This second bike Russ posted is the real deal as far as correctness, the seller points out that it has had the exhaust replaced and if you look closely at the photo of the speedo it reads 3027 miles, the 3 is hard to see due to the reflection in the photo. About the only thing I can spot on this bike that isn't exactly 100% correct is that it is missing the grab rail and the engine covers are buffed to a finish that resembles chrome, not that I'd complain about that. My guess is that this second bike will fetch somewhere in the neighborhood of 5K plus. It is a very nice example with very low miles.
