Thanks Joe. I had never seen that bike, and I'm sure many Z fans hadn't as well, until now.
Your welcome Eric Bob Carpenter was his main rival at the time first competing on a H2 Series Kaw and then on his second Z1 1075cc against this RC cycle which was 1103cc and was the most part the bridesmaid, but Carpenter did beat him eventually and took the championship for one year.

I'm trying to locate a mag that has quite a good write up about a journalist that managed to talk his way into running a few passes on this cycle and then going back to RC'S with Vance and Hines and in his presence they dismantled it and allowed him to extensively photograph to his hearts content and then allowing him to publish the whole story.

Towards the end prior to retiring this cycle Mark Skehan had let Jim Hanlon use it to win the inaugral Interstate Drag Bike Challege around 1982 to a best time of 9.40 secs

I remember the Suzuki article of the inside of the motor.I want to say there was one on the Z1? I just can't say for sure. We need to search high and low. I would like to know what cams it had. My guess is, RC424's or one RC424 and one RC400. I am saying that because they once reconmended that to a friend of mine, many years ago. They said it would have never ending top end. Plus at the time no one had high lift cams like we have today. Those were the big dog cams reconmened for lay down bikes.
I would think that the GS1000 bike would be close to the Z1.
