Hello John
I forwarded your e-mail to Byron and he asked me to get back to you with the story.
Vance & Hines did in fact have a Kawasaki.
Byron first ran a Kawi in 76 out of RC Engineering. That was pre NHRA and pre Vance & Hines. He then ran a Suzuki from 77-83. At the end of 83 Factory Suzuki didn't renew with him and Terry.
They then wanted to try something different in 84, so they built a Honda. With that bike at the very first race it set both ends of the record. The rules were changed after the race for the Honda. So then it got sold and they didn't race anymore that season until the Finals in Orange County, CA. That is where the Kawasaki was run for the first time. It was black, silver and red. Terry rode the bike and raced Byron first round. The bike was then sold at the end of the race to the M & M Boys. After that they re-signed Suzuki and as they say the rest is history.
The Kawasaki is still out their. Last I saw a guy on dragbike.com has it and was restoring it. I have one picture that I took off the web. It really was a cool bike. I hope this helped you out John
Thanks Eddie
