You know, the first year GPz750's are nice bikes (I have one also) but they just don't sell well (usually)... rephrased, they have not appreciated in value like their larger relatives. I suspect the owner will be disappointed in any offers...but I'd really (and I do mean really ) like to snag his exhaust (I do believe that is a Yosh pipe woohoo!).

Ok, so it's my bike. Thanks to Bad Kaw for pointing me to this site.
The truth is, I like this bike. It's got a unique charm that few modern bikes have. I've been reading through the service manual and think the clutch issue shouldn't be too tough. Once I fix that, I might list it on craigslist and see what happens. If I'm too disappointed with the offers, as mcdroid suggested I might be, I'll just keep it and make it work.

Oh, it is a Yoshimura exhaust and it sounds really good.

DANG IT! I just found Old Man Rock's KZ900 restoration thread. Now I really don't want to sell this bike.
So the clutch issue...
I recently put on a new clutch cable and thought it was breaking in and stretching a little as it would start engaging the instant I started to release the lever. So, I made some small adjustments at the lever and all was well. Couple days later, the same thing started happening again. This time I went to the in-line adjuster. Again, all was well. Two weeks ago, I'm on the freeway (luckily heading towards my exit), go to pull in the clutch lever and there's nothing! No resistance at all and it doesn't spring back out. I leave it in 5th and slow till she stalls. I pushed her to a friends garage and finally found a van and some ramps and got her back to my place this past weekend.
With the service manual in hand, I pulled the sprocket cover and everything on that side of the bike looked fine. It's So I'm guessing the problem is somewhere on the other side in the clutch assembly. Now, I have virtually no experience with Japanese bikes but I have been into the clutch on my Sportster so I'm not too scared of the mechanics of it. Actually, it seems like it'll be a lot easier to get to than on the Sportster.
I haven't been inside it yet so I'm just conjecturing based on pictures in the manual and diagrams from online parts stores. Is it possible that the little steel ball at the end of the clutch push rod somehow popped out? While I'm in there, should I go ahead and replace the friction plates just for the heck of it?
Thanks all. I think I'm going to like it here!

Quader, where did you find that seat? I'd love something a little lower profile. At 5'8" I don't get as firm a footing as I'd like.

could be the clutch actuator.
when you pulled the left cover off,
did the actuator move when you pull the lever?

Ok, which part is the actuator? Is that the rod that goes through the case to push the clutch pack apart.

i am by no means a clutch guru but i have messed with these clutches before.do as kano says ,make sure the actuator is operating properly.you said you changed the cable.did you put spring# 92081 in place.there are 3 bearings that go in between part# 92045 and #13102,if those bearings came out of place that would also cause the clutch to not disengage.if all is well follow the instructions in the book on how to adjust the clutch.pay close attention to the part where it tells you to screw in,or out, the adjuster behind the plate on the side cover, there is a supplement in the back of the book concerning this, can't remember which is the right direction for you initial adjustment.lets us know how your doin...wow no paragraphs, gotta love it :side:
