So i've enjoyed this site and the kawi folks knowledge,,,and out of bordom and interest have posted some stuff and really enjoyed the responses...mystery ship... oil filter preference....
so here goes.....
my buddy is learning to ride on a 2008 fz1 and anywhere we go for a ride and park the bikes, someone will walk up to are bikes and start talking about my old beast....
being a proud owner i answer their questions and then allways comes the story....
the best is when i'm at the bank one day and a sherrif pulls into the spot next to me and walks up to the bike before i can get my helmet off....no worries though cause i can tell he's in memoryville ...does'nt even look at me..only the z..."76 right" yup i say " mine was a76,,man was that the best bike" just got er i tell him and have been working on it"nice bike i have'nt seen one same color in years,,have fun"
So now my buddy is used to the people walking by his brand new bike like it's not there and he kinda gets a kick out of riding around fast with a thirty three year old side kick to his 2008...anywhere we park em this happens...any good stories to add...peace craig

I always get a thumbs up when im riding. When ever i pull the old girls out of the stable it seems like people always come up to me and give me a compliment. As a matter a fact i did the toys for tots run in chicago last sunday, gawd what a cold ride only 10 degrees. Any who i decided to take my kz 400 hardtail bobber on this run, before i could even pull into the parking lot all the harley guys were looking at me, when i pulled in and shut it off, i must have had 15 or 20 people come up an check it out. One guy said it sounds pretty mean for a little twin ( im running strait pipes:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:). I said thanks alot i like it....lol. Another guy said is that a kz 400?, i said yes sir it is, then he said wow it sure dont look like a kz 400 very cool. Then i was ata gas station one time, and a guy came up to me and said wow what a sweet little bike. Is it stock???????, I looked kinda confused but he started laughing and said he was just kidding.....lol. Mainly when the 900 z1 comes out, i get from people, wow i haven heard that sound since the 70's or 80's.

What I love the most is going to the local bike nite which seems to be everywhere and just stand back and watch. Like you said you can see it in the eyes. My friend, uncle, brother, neighbor, and sometimes me had one and they tell you a story. What I enjoy most is to fire her up at a full event when everyone is riding the twins (which all sound the same to me) and watch people look for that sound that is unlike any machine at the events. Then let the unbaffled motor do the talking. I do enjoy the attention it brings from the "Brand Loyalists". One riding buddy has a Screaming Eagle which he has over 40 grand into, and low and behold after doing a nice burnout next to him, he is now looking for a 77 kz1000 again. (He owned a kz650 and kz1000 20 years ago, I guess the rumble from the burnout  brought back memorys for him also.)

On my way back to Phoenix from Las Vegas picking up the bike, had that beat up old KZ900 in the back of the truck. No emblems, no side covers, just an old beat up girl that had been neglected way to long.

A group of Ducati's (full leathers, riding boots, dark visors) pass me @ about 80mph plus when all of a sudden the rear rider hits the brakes to end up parallel to the bike looking hard at her. Then pulls up to my window and while looking at me snaps his arm at me with a big upward thumb while nodding his head/helmet in approval.

Hits his throttle and was gone...

No doubt about it, 100% positive, he KNEW exactly what I had sitting in the back of the truck.

I just grinned for I as well knew what I had sitting in the back of the truck!

Bike nite is always fun. We usually park right in the middle of the Hurleys just for effect. One guy rides in on an Ultra with his kid. He comes by and his kid is wide eyed. We usually sit a little away and eat a ice cream and watch. The father wants to move on but the kid is mesmerized by our bikes. Finally after a lot of questions the old man really doesn't want to answer and some he can't. He pulls the kid away. But he has to come back at least 3 times to fetch the kid as he keeps coming back there oogling our bikes. I had the 76 900 LTD my brother built and my buddy had his Wes Cooley GS. I told my buddy I think a DNA test would be revealing.

I was filling the tank on the 1000 one day when I hear the unmistakable sound of a group of "brand loyalist" (damn that's funny) coming into the lot. There were 6 of them and the leader of the pack was on a chromed out bagger. He pulled into the pump next to me and nodded. The rest of the pack went to other pumps. Of course I start to hear things like "Why is he putting gas in a rice burner?" and "Jap junk" or *They should only allow American bikes on American roads". Well I just ignored them and figured I'd just ride off and let the "men" have the place to themselves. That's when I notice the guy on the bagger giving my bike the look over. He asks what year it is and I tell him 82. To my surprise he says he had an 81. That's when one of the "men" comes over and starts giving me shit about Jap bikes being junk and asking why the bagger rider is wasting his time talking to me. That's when the bagger rider turns to him and tells him to "shut the f__k up" because my KZ would spank his Sportsters ass. I think I was in as much shock as the other 5 "brand loyalist". He asked if I minded him checking the bike out and I said no. He threw his leg over it and just sat there and I could see by the look on his face that he was reliving some fond memories of bygone days. We shook hands, wished each other a good, safe ride. I rode by the "men" really slow, grinning ear to ear. I'm sure that bagger rider rides lone wolf now. That group of "men" would never forgive him. I bet he's happier...

pulled one of my bikes into my friends harley shop out in the sticks years ago, might of been my 1428 cant remember anyway his shop is on an old highway about 10 miles outside of town and there was probably 30 harleys all sitting there in his yard shooting the shit most of the guys were prety cool.so when it comes time to leave my buddy knows what im fixing to do so he tells a couple of the boys to watch as i do my my little flat tracker stunt out of the driveway which they think is cool.then im feeling really ballsy and decide to show them what the ol turbo is capable of so i get her lined up in the middle of the highway in case it gets ugly lock the front brake up and proceed to turn the ol metzler on the back to liquid goo just as i feel its starting to get to the point of no return i let go of the brake and launched!   :evil:my god did that scare the shit out of me,got it into town and finally shut it down with my heart ready to explode(no wonder ive got a pacemaker! )i was told later they were very impressed,my friend told me you couldnt even see the bike till i launched then as he put it this big cloud of tire smoke just kindof rolled back into itself and chased me down the highway into town! i need to get a medtronics pacemaker logo put on my next project since theyre my biggest sponsor!

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

Had a few people talk to me about the bikes but Alberta isn't the most open and friendly place (no offence Rick ) so generally its just a wave or nod.

Had a guy offer to double my money for my 750 twin just after I bought it and pulled into the Tim Hortons parking lot with it in the trailer. He started talking about how those were the real scary bikes back in the day and that they could lift the front wheel in third, etc. Hmm...wonder if I should've sold it before he realized it wasnt an H2

Also had a biker looking guy pull up beside me at a stoplight in an old van and start talking to me about the 750. Unfortunately that was after I pushed it past its limit (open road, no wind, that's what it'll do to ya  ) and lost a cylinder so she was bucking and kicking like a harley :silly:  :woohoo:
