The one pic is from 1980 and are The "stock" bars as per the rules of the class at the time. No funny handling with them. Bike ran 10.70s as a 1015 weighing almost 700# with me on it at that time. Yes, still have it. Evolved to this by 86

looks good when was the last time you raced it. 10.70's really it sounds like i would have been in there with you guys because my first bike ran those kind of numbers consistently.

Sounds like you probably had a much better/newer motor combination because when I say 10.70s in 1980 that was it's bests on a day when the air, track and wind added up in my favor for running a good ET/Speed. That bike (1015 motor) was actually built based on pro-stock engine technology from about the same era as that beautiful Bob Carpenter (small motor) (trickle-down theory) Pro-Stock bike running that same 3.5 A-1 Groodyear RR slick on a stock rim. My old bike held an NMRA National Record of 11.00 set in the summer July heat at Indy. Mine also didn't have that same (off-the-line) handling problem you described with those stock handlebars. How good it really left then would only be a guess becuse only a very few mid-western tracks even had 60'/short-time readouts in 1980. I'd guess about 1.35-1.38 maybe? For me everything had to go real well for me to bump the 10s! Stock frame-strut type chassis tech with high level small motor carrying 100 + # than like Carpenters pictured bike. We thought we were fast back in the day but it's all relative to when your "back-in-the-day" occurs. I love these old bikes though! I don't ride anymore but I did take it out and let another guy/lighter guy run it and it ran a 9.43. The motor runs the same as it did 25 years ago I't a;most like recapturing a glance at our youthes. Thanks Plummin!

What class did you run in NMRA Modprod? Here's a picture of a race a couple of friends and me towed to in 8/81 in Fremont, CA running D/MT for D modified turbo. Ran 8.78@158 with Rick Horn riding. Rick was pretty well known in the motorcycle dragracing scene back then. I remember we left at 10PM one night and were towing an enclosed trailer behind a half ton chevy with a straight 6 engine. Took 36 hours non stop driving to get to Fremont which I believe was about 1200 miles for an average of about 33mph. Needless to say we quickly went to bigger tow rigs.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Here's a nice old B/M entry from Englishtown, NJ or East Haddam, CT in 1982 or 83 which I can't remember which. B/M class was running around a low 9 back then.

thanks for that video how did it feel getting back on it again you didn't look to nervous. the bike i was running 10.70's with was a 1015 wiseco street kit,.395 cams, oversized valves,29 smoothbores, star street sidewinder, dyna3 ignition, lots of port work, stock wheel base, a5 inch goodyear, they called it a 7 inch but it was actually a 5.5, at 3720 feet of elevation. my best time in calgary was a 10.68 124 mph, my best time in mission b.c was 10.28 128 mph at sealevel,i foot shifted it and still do on my little bike. had to go with air on my big bike that first shift is a bit hectic without it. i ran that bike from 1994 to 2000 with the same combo. it averaged 1.44 60' times but i did get in to the 1.30's a couple of times by the way the bike weighed 440 plus my 200+. i just lucked into a good combo it worked very well right from the start and i kept it that way as long as i could.
