Of the listed outlets, only B&N has a presence within two hours of here. Unless and until the magazine hits the rack in Wal*Mart, it's not going to be available in much of the country.

Sadly, it appears the Motorcyclist Retro magazine has been shelved. I don't have any more info at this time - but they have stopped publication.

You gents got me thinking....so when I went to pick up my new issue of Classic Motorcycle Mechanics yesterday, I also picked up the Winter 2008/09 version of MR with the brand y rd350 burnout pic on the front.
Not too bad a mag but I think they're in the market a little late. CMM has the Japanese side pretty well sewed up and Classic Bike has the Brit/Euro side taped.....and both have been on the market for eons.....and, IMO, are pretty good mags, especially CMM.
I definitely agree with Jeff's comments although there IS a market for a classic dirt bike mag. CMM just started one up ~6-8 months ago. I'm not sure how it's going over....

FWIW, I really enjoyed the "Cross Country on a Honda 305 Dream" story in MR. Quite a trip those boys were on. A primer on what can happen with old bikes, little/no preparation, lotsa enthusiasm and no schedule. Great stuff.

KZ650C2 Stock/mint. Goes by "Ace".
H2A Built from a genuine basket case. Yes,it's a hot rod.
GT550A Stock/mint. Pleasant stroker.
2006 Bandit 1200S for easy LD rapid transit
Various H2 projects in the wings.

Great magazine, sorry to see it canceled. They were off to a great start, focusing on the right bikes.
The same month Retro was canceled, the issue of Motorcyclisthad several pages devoted to image-based Southern California motorcycle and scooter clubs. Sad to see us passed over in favor of the hipsters.

New format, subscription only for now...

I wrote to Motorcyclist lamenting its demise and they just said it was a "buisness decision". I thought it was a great mag.

With limited distribution (read, no Walmart) and an economy that has tanked in a lot of areas and no subscriptions early on to reach those beyond the distribution limit, I'm not too surprised that it has gone away. I would have liked to have seen an issue to judge it fairly, but now I won't get the chance. I still take Motorcycle Classics and Cycle World.

Agree w/you on this...very spotty distribution...and I'd like to add that the short 'test run' was an insufficient amount of time to properly judge the mag to see was going to make it (apparently the owner agrees as he is still attempting to salvage production)...but I also take Motorcycle Classics, Cycle World and VJMC...US$40/year is steep...for that I could subscribe to one of the UK mags...which are really good.

not to highjack this thread....and kinda on topic i started a thread yesterday talking about the march "roadracing world"s issue having sooooo much history on old superbikes, odd frame builders from the past, maverick superstars of the past, really, really, really good ,i was suprised to find such stuff in a mag covering the modern racing scene....check it out it was the best u.s mag i've read in a longggggggggg time...allways a great read compared to cycle(fashion/stunt/rag)world or motorcyclist...if not for kevin cameron i would just read em in the grocery store in 6 minutes and finish shopping for milk and eggs.....

Last night, there were about 6 copies left of the final issue at a local Borders store. Seriously debating going back and buying all of them, but @ $7.99 a copy, its hard to justify. If anyone needs or wants one, please let me know, I'll be happy to grab one for you.
