1979 Kawasaki 650 SR....What do you guys think

I know this comes from a Craig's List listing; however I figured more people would see it in it's own thread and I need some quick advice. Anyways, I've been looking for a reliable motorcycle(I actually had been looking for a Honda CB), but I came across this:
tampa.craigslist.org/mcy/725567026.html

I checked the bike out and it seems to run fine, and look fairly good, but do you guys think it's to much?

Thanks in advance for the help!!!

I think $2K is kind of pricey.
But, if they're rare in your area, and you really want a 650, then I guess its a seller's market. If he's put on all of the parts that he lists, then he's spent some money keeping it up. Can't see the paintjob, but if it's nice, that's worth more $$.
One thing....
He says it's only got 11,000 original miles, but he rides it every day? Either he hasn't had the bike very long, or he's got a really short commute.

In my opinion yes that is way too much money for that bike. In order to fetch that kind of money the bike would have to be almost showroom condition which from what I can see from the pic that bike is not. Just from a quick glance the side covers are from a 78 and the seller states that the paint has been re-done again looking at the pic the paint is not real good.

I buy a lot of these old bikes and in my opinion Florida bikes are not real desireable. The sun just beats the hell out of them. The paint, seats, and gauges are usually toast as are most of the rubber parts. Although Florida cars are desireable in the North due to the lack of rust it is just the opposite when you are looking at bikes.

In my experience bikes from Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Pa, New York, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Minn, and Ohio are the better way to go.

I appreciate the help and fast replies! The bike isn't showroom condition, but for this year it seems to be pretty nice, but like you guys said, it's definitely too steep for me to feel comfortable buying. What's a decent price range would you say?

For what it's worth I bought a 79 650 CSR last fall all original with 14,000 miles for $537.00.

Here's a pic I'd say the bike was in good condition.

Edit: Oh and I sold the rack and backrest to someone from Canada for $50.00.

I bought the purple 79 KZ650SR that has pics floating around here somewhere for $450 delivered to my door, and a 1980 KZ650F for $400, but I had to drive three miles to get that one. Both bikes were running, rideable, and had valid titles, I sold the 80 KZ650F and my Nephew put a GPz750 motor and GPz750 suspension on the 79. He keeps saying he's going to finish the 79 (it needs little), but I can't pry him off the 750 Turbo long enough to do so.

$2000 is way to much for a 79 KZ650SR.

Stuff keeps going up-up-up in recent years thanks to ebay. Used to be $500 would get you a nice 77-79 KZ650 and $1000 would buy most KZ1000s. Not anymore. I'm glad I bought all mine when I did. Believe it or not I paid $150 for my 77 KZ650 I ride all year around and have gotten near 40,000 miles of reliable motorcycle transportation out of it now.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I agree that the price is too high...but I dunno the market in FL either. Three years ago I bought a 99% original 1979 SR650 with 5800 miles on the clock. I paid $1300 for it, changed the original dry-rotted tires and both sprokets and chain...so I got about $1600 into it the first couple months. Lots of folks told me I paid too much but here I am 3 years and 22K miles later and I still feel that the price was worth it...especially when I see the Harley and crotch-rocket guys who I know still own thousand$ for their toys. If (God forbid) I wreck it tomorrow I'd still feel that $1600 for 22K+ miles ain't too bad in comparison to those guys who bought Harleys and Gold Wings.

I still feel that the price was worth it.

And that's all that matters :)
