Should I buy a ZRX? Help! was created by speedadict
Hey dudes. I am shopping for a ZRX. I found a 2003 with a full Muzzy titanium exhaust, k&n filters, rejetted, new chain and sprockets, battery relocator, ignition advancer... It has 25,000 miles and is $4,000 sound like a deal? I think 25,000 is kinda a lot... What do you guys think? It is green, and looks nice. About 133 hp after the mods.... Thoughts?

Yes...buy it. 25,000 miles is not many miles. These are supposedly wonderful bikes but because they have a reputation as being a 'fun' bike, many were treated rather brutally. BUT what you need to try and figure out is how the PO rode the bike...is the bike modded-out to enhance it's reputation as a 'wheelie monster'? Has the bike been thrashed? Has the bike been down? Has the PO maintained the bike properly?

Sounds like it has been well maintained. The PO is 40 years old...

I know of a bike for 5 or best offer has 7k miles on it and is a 2004. If you don't like the miles you for sure can find one at that price with many less miles. I rode the 1200r and was impressed with the comfy seat and riding position but not enough to be swayed away from my kz1000. It really is a very nice bike that so many people bought who practically didn't ride. I could have won one for 4725 on fleabay with only 2000 miles on a 2000 with a full titanium pipe and carbon baffle akropovic pipe. This pipe is 1300 new and I pissed around thinking about buying something from ebay and then when I pushed the button to bid on it auction had ended. I was sad to not get it but if I did I know that my kz would have been neglected. Anyway if you have thought about it then back in your mind you feel as you could do better and you can. People who don't ride much always sell their bikes and usually will let them go very cheap. Once again though if it is really nice and none are close water cooled bikes most likely last quite a bit longer than air cooled if they are taken care of. The honda aspencades go for stupid miles if they are maintained.

You mean over 40 isn't? ;) Just kidding... My dad was crazier in his 50's on a dirt bike than I ever was, or ever will be...

I found another ZRX. This one is a 2001 dead stock with 6,000 miles, a scorpion pipe, and new tires.

I like the look of the 03 better because it doesn't have the purple on the tank, but low miles sounds really appealing. Go with the 01?

i don't think you should buy it.
why would you want a sexy bike with a ton of hp anyway?
$ 4,000 is less then i have into the motor, swingarm and carbs for my project.
what do you need 133 hp for anyway?
speed limit is only 65 mph anyway.
why do you need a bike that handles better than an older kz for?
i think you should forward all the contact info for this bike to all of us instead.

i'm laying the sarcasm on real thick btw.

jump on this one if you can afford it!

i can't find one local here for under $6500

i would love to have me a z-rex.
i just love the looks of a green one.

if you buy it, we need pictures so we ( or just me ) can drool.

go get it all ready!

someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

I can chime here thouh, I think you can get a better deal. I picked up a 2005 ZRX1200 with only 2200 miles on it last September for $5,900 from a dealer! Keep your eyes out, you will find a newer one with low miles versus the prices you quoted above.B)

I think you should look a little harder too. I got my 2000 1100 last your for $3500. It had 7k miles and a carbon fiber Kerker. I have been riding old bikes my whole life and this bike was a revelation to me. Don't get me wrong, I still have my KZ900 and KZ650, but the Rex now has 22K miles including about 5-6K during the winter months. I would not even think about using the KZ's in very cold weather. Between the bias ply tires and weak charging system for my electric stuff, I don't think it would be a good idea. But buy a ZRX, you won't regret it.
