What gas mileage do you get? was created by Nelson
I'm thinking of buying another kz to use as a commuter. I'm tired of racking up the miles on my nice bikes while just running around town. I prefer big, but would consider a 550, 650, 750 if the mileage is good enough. I get around 40mpg with my 1000.
what say you?

My 78 1000 gets around 40 also. Had an 82 GPZ 550 many moons ago and it would get high 50's and low 60's mpg.

My GPz11 got 40-45 back in the day, but that was with a 15/41 gearing. With this rebuild will be a change to 15/37, with the option of going to either 15/34 or 16/37 (same basic gearing). Calculations based on torque curve says 50 mpg is well within expectations.

My totally stock low miles KZ650C2 gets ~55MPIG or ~44MPUSG
when ridden hard around town. Stock gearing, stock size tires, stock exhaust, no windshield. I have not yet had it on the highway to check for sustained mileage but would expect somewhere arounb 50-55MPUSG. A small-medium sized windshield might help this a bit.

My SR is consistently 39-40 MPG. The 650 hit 42. I haven't seen any better than that from either.

That's pretty much the mileage I got (when not ridden at WOT of course) on the 84 GPz550 I owned back when I was in my reckless 20's.
My 78 KZ650 (Mac pipe and a K&N OEM replacement air filter are only current mods on it) has incredibly horrible compression on all cylinders, #2 being the worst at about 80 psi:pinch:.
Yet even as aggressively as I usually ride, I still manage to get about 31 mpg (46 freeway miles/6 city street miles round-trip) during my daily commute to work.
