Take a look at this bike on Ebay. Is this real and if so how much do you think it will go for?

Yeah...I'm watching that too. I am curious what the 'reserve' is...the problem being that the demand for that model is not really very high...and the reserve may be set too high...I may be pessimistic but I'd wager that he'll be lucky to get US$4500 for the bike:unsure:

Michael while you are usually on the money when it comes to what a bike will bring I think you are going to be surprized by this one. You say the demand for a 1000 G1 is not that high, I agree to a point but there are a couple of things to keep in mind. First Kawasaki only made 3200 of these to begin with and there are alot of people out there that don't even know what they are or that they even exist. Also keep in mind that most of the 1000 G1's that come up for sale are not even close to original condition, forget about being zero miles still in the crate. I've been watching them whenever they come up for sale on Ebay ever since I bought mine and most I've seen have been either non running, without titles, had carbs installed, missing the grab rail, had non stock exhaust or were just in tatty condition. Given all that is it any wonder they don't bring big prices?

Back a few weeks ago when we were discussing that really nice Z1R that was for sale, you made the observation that at a certain point some motorcycles stop being just motorcycles and become art. I would have to say this bike falls into that category. I would like to see it go to the Barber Museum but I'd be willing to bet it gets bought by a foreign buyer.

I'm sure the owner has a pretty high reserve on it but I'm reasonably sure the reason he left it stashed away to begin with was that he figured to make a few bucks on it at some point in time. IIRC these bikes sold for $3699.00 when they were new, if he were to only make 5 percent a year on his money, after 27 years that comes to $4993.65 without compounding. I don't think I would be willing to sell it for $4500.00 if I owned it. Just my $.02 worth.

I am surprised it hasn't attracted some more bidding.

A couple of points to bear in mind with this bike. The G model was unique to North America. The other markets received the H model as the FI model - more of a conventional Mk II look but injected. Overall the 'LTD look' for bikes has been a turn-off for overseas buyers. The G model has not moving into a collector status. Parts are incredibly difficult to find, the fuel injection system was very problematic - what would be scary for the new owner would be the black box not working new out of the box... as you cannot get them new, and it's tough to find good used ones.

This bike is either a you like it or you hate it model. And unfortunately the bidding kind of reflects that.

Having a bike sit in the crate for 28 years isn't good either. The chances of engine problems are high, and all the rubber parts are suspect.

Still, I would have expected the bike to hit $10,000 easily.

The master cylinder leak, front caliper leak and the peeling paint of the engine case will not help things at all. In order to put the bike on the road it would need all new gaskets, tires and who knows what engine work. If the chrome is pitted then be assured that moisture got into the engine as well. I would love to see what the top end looks like. I will guess it ends at $11200 with the reserve not met. I agree with the bikes collector status being low. All the bad publicity and problems they had when new stayed with the bike. Kind of like a Pinto, not many people owned one but we all know about the problems they had.

That is too bad about the brake fluid. I'd bet it will fire right up if the fuel injection still works.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Even though it is not a Kaw I happened to find this NOS bike on Ebay.

It's odd how many bikes that you could hardly give away when they were new are now bringing huge prices. I remember selling a new one of these to a guy and then being dragged to small claims court because when the ether had worn off he decided he wanted his deposit money back. BTW he didn't get it I won the case.

Edit:Removed link lets see if this fixes it.:pinch:

Gringo... smaller link please. You have been here long enough so you should now better. Your punishment is go into the garage and say "I am not worthy of all these bikes" :P . I love those Suzukis as well. Very mean looking and fast fast fast. Looks to be in better shape than the KZ as too. 2 miles but never started? I know what he meant to say but that is a bit misleading. Most bikes are ridden or dynoed at the factory to make sure everything works as it should.

Definitely not one of the most sought after models, but if it is truly out of the crate, will probably still get bids over $10K. My biggest problem with this model is the lack of a rear tail. Always liked the looks of that famous Kaw tail.

If that was a Z1, Z1-R, or MKII, the sky would be the limit.

The Kaw List:
Current: 79 KZ1000 A3 MKII, 78 KZ1000 A2, 78 KZ1000 Z1-R, 78 KZ650 SR, 80 KE175
Former: 03 KLX400SR, 99 ZRX1000, 82 KZ750 LTD, 80 KZ1000 A4 MKII, 80 KZ1000 LTD, 78 KZ1000 A2, 74 H-2 750 Triple, 78 KL250
