1980 Kawasaki KZ1000 Trike

29 May 2017 11:33

Hello,
I have just purchased a custom built 1980 Kawasaki KZ1000, (see attached photo) that I plan to convert into a Trike. I have no experience in such an endeavor, so I will be needing any assistance I can get in completing this project.
I guess the best way to begin is with detailed pictures of what has already been done to the bike, and following with my ideas on taking what I have and asking for any help, tips etc. I will be posting updates as the project progresses.
Thank You All, In Advance!

I was thinking of Bills bike. If anything needed it this one does IMO.

Miller use to say "jack up the headlight and replace the motorcycle." Maybe find one that's been frozen up and swap parts?

Reminds me of Walneck's Road Dog.
walneckswap.com/About-Us/History-of-Roadog

Definitely have a conversation with Bill about his trike build.

Yea, but like I said a little earlier I am having serious problems with getting used to the clutch being there by the left highway peg, and the suicide shifter as cool as it looks.
I would never take it on a trip of any distance, as is. One of the first things that will be done is the Clutch is going back on the handlebar where it belongs.Just out of curiosity, I did some research on shaft driven Trikes and found an article at carcentric.com concerning the trike conversion of a '79 Honda CX500 using the rear axle from a '81 Datsun B210. What they did there makes alot more sense than converting the shaft drive that I have to chain (God only knows what complications that would involve). Anyhow if anyone is interested in the article the link is carcentric.com/Roxinante.htm
