1982 Z550GP H1
11 May 2017 06:18 - 11 May 2017 06:21
Thanks to the previous owner i picked up these 550s just over a year ago for very little. The plan was to make one good bike out of the two . But progress slowed once i found the PO (an old bloke in his early eighty's) had started to make his own wiring looms due to electrical issues. He totally mangled the job, then decided it was to hard and bought a new bike..
After that they sat unloved under a cover in his sons workshop for a couple of years, before i got sucked into buying them...
Fast foward a year
Yes its sill not finished,

I repaired the wiring loom and rebuilt the carbs before firiring it up and riding around the block a couple of times. After that i stripped the bike down to its frame and started reassembling it, repairing or replacing parts when i thought they needed it,The bikes not a resto just cleaned up.with a couple of custom touches.
The main things done so far....
Repaired the wiring
rebuilt the carbs
cleaned up the wheels and swing arm with new bearings and paint
Custom chain guard and modified front guard
stripped and rebuilt brakes s
new disks, pads and Braided lines
Full service of engine
I Still need to
Finish the paint
rebuild forks (waiting fork new stanchions and seals to arrive )
Fiinish exhaust
tune
ride
other stuff

Nice rebuild! I love that little rear disc lock. The rear tire looks rather small, what size is i?

Hi Cory. Good spotting, the tire is a 110-80-18 thanks to the previous owner. I think its supposed to be a 120 or 130?
I also have a metal valve stem to replace the rubber one that's also fitted,

24 Feb 2018 06:36 - 24 Feb 2018 07:37Thanks, I bought it off webike japan in December and it just turned up this week.riturbo wrote: Wow looks great .Where did you get that pipe ?
To be fair they told me there was no stock and offered a refund or i could wait while the supplier made it for me .

Awesome once i realized it loves going past 6000rpm  Ive only put around 25km on it with the old bitsa exhaust and none with the new one, Its definitely going to need some playing around with the needles and jets as it did feel a little lacking down low in the revs. Its compltely different to my last bike a moto guzzi 850T
