Yep... It's hard to do we all get it.... ![;) ;)](/media/kunena/emoticons/11.png)
The battery can wait, compression test after the starter swap for sure for as we realized that night at your place, rotating the crank had little resistance so compression and leak down testing should provide some clues/answers.
Not to mention those lovely BS-34's... (for others    ) don;t know the history of working or not....
All in due time, when ready give me a shout,

I think my neighbor has a FSM for that bike. He offer to give it to me once. I will see if I can get my hands on it for you.

I have a clymer manual, is that different from the fsm you're talking about?

Much. Clymers have a nasty habit of leading you over a cliff. One size fits all.

Oh OK. Well I took the exhaust cam off and moved it forward, tightened everything back down and went to turn the engine over and I heard a click, looked and the exhaust jumped back 1 tooth......grr. don't know why it's doing that. It's happened twice. Suggestions?

Is all the slack at the back of the engine? Try backing up the intake cam so the chain is tight when you get it back to TDC and the exhaust mark in the right place. Intake cam binding?

Ok so I had to move the intake up 1 pin and the exhaust down 2 to get every thing lined up where it should be at tdc. It feels like the crank is harder to turn now so hopefully that was some of my low compression problems. Guess I Won't be able to do a compression test until I get my starter fixed

If the starter still turns with battery power, you could remove the two bolts from the case, pull it apart and clean out all the carbon and old caked on grease to see if being gummed up with carbon (brushes that send power to the starter are carbon, the dust gets everywhere and makes starting harder) is the cause of the starter not doing it's job.
I've done it to a dozen or so hard to start bikes, with a positive result everytime. Just make sure you draw a line across the two end caps and the main body of the starter to line things back up later

Make sure the pin count is correct.

Did you reinstall and properly reset the tensioner before turning the crank? If not, the chain can skip teeth. Depending on how far it skipped, continuing to tur rhe engine can result in bent valves.
