What I just now noticed is according to the clymer.when you set the cam alignment, you get 1 and 4 to tdc.which I've done, the "in"mark on the intake cam should be "a little above the rear surface of the cylinder head" but at top dead center I'm a little below. Thinking I'm off a few teeth on the crank?

Yes. According to the clymer the spec is 5.07 in between pin 1 and 21. From center of pin 1 to center of 21 I'm spot on

So what I'm thinking is,take 1 of the cams out, put the crank on top dead center and realign both cams

I cut a spare cover for my ZX750A1 motor so I can check it with the top slider installed.
Also be able to degree them set up as it will be running.

It's gotten to too dark tonight to do much more so I'll get back to it first thing. Curious as to how it jumped so far. Was 1 tooth off on the cams and I'm guessing 2-3 on the bottom end. Looks like the PO has had the valve cover off cause some of the bolts were hand tight and weren't all the same.

huntersdad14 wrote: Progress so far. Starter removed. The post on it is very lose and spinning. There's a blue wire with a red stripe that wasn't hooked up to anything (pic). Removed the valve cover and am inspecting the cam chain and cam shafts. I pulled the cap and spring for the cam chain tensioner and there wasn't much tension on it.
Need a starter? Watch out for this seller though...he sells good stuff but has a tendency to misrepresent parts as being much better that what you actually get (wife actually runs the show there so that shld explain a lot). Good luck................................Mike

you realy need to say what bike your working on first. If its a j model engine its 44 th pin on chain. Lots of slack in chain because of cam cover not installed. You need to look for proper instructions. This site does have a search.
