wow can't believe it's a cycle one frame .

red has a good reputation for building all kinds of frames.

i know of several rigid kz frames (and harley frames)that were built locally.

what is the material the backbone is made of?

Hard to tell from the pic you posted, but I looked on their site and think I saw the frame you have. It looks like it cracked under the tank where the backbone tube and gusset tube meet. The engine is just sitting in that frame, not "TIED" in. Since the frame is so light, I would vee/weld the crack, put a gusset between backbone and other tube and steer tube tying that setcion together. THEN, fab up a head stay going from the top of the engine to the backbone. Replace some valve cover bolts with studs and make an upside down "T" out of plate.

Dude that sucks! I really liked your build even though I hate chopper styles with inline four engines. Really awesome build. Im just glad it didn't kill ya. Can't you just prep the pipe for a weld, encase the joint with a halved sleeve and weld it? I'm no welder and not very smart so maybe that's a dumb idea. I'm sure you could add angular bracing to help this.

Thank you for the compliment. They are going to do a brand new frame with double down tubes and a neck gusset.

Right on, extra charge? If it'll work, I guess it's worth it. I never liked Choppers except Millers and yours. :)

I don't 'get' hardtail chops, but that bike is something really very special. In a totally different dimension to the usual hacked up everyday junk.

If you have to rebuild that fucker 5 times it will be worth it no doubt. Really quite exceptional.

Steve- the first two times I stripped of every nut and bolt and sent it back- they only changed me shipping.
No change this time- only i don't need to send it back to them.

That's good to know. When I find good people like that, I have no problem telling people about them. The same goes the other way. Looking forward to seeing her new bones.

here are some other rigid chops built by
hotshoecustoms.tumblr.com/
using cycleone's frames.

it's not red's first rodeo for sure .material failure? design flaw?long as nobody got hurt and he makes it right.
these are custom bikes and anyone that builds or rides it needs to understand what they are doing and act accordingly.

what size material was used in the cracked backbone?

can't wait to see the next version.

keep us posted,

I always thought having to stop for fuel every 120-30 miles was a PITA. Those peanut and small tanks have to be worse. Miller had 5 Gal. Fat Bob tanks on his CB 750/1000 Honda/Davidson and keep going. I'd have to meet him at a bar if he didn't stop with me.
