Hey, have you tried different air filters. I had problems with the uni foam filters, k&N filter seemed to work better for me. Figured I would throw it out there. Oh and Ed definitely makes a good point. Have to really try to get my bike past 80 now.
- good luck

Meh, I'm not too worried about it. I was hopeful someone would chime in and say the free flowing exhaust was a cause of power loss. That way I would be more motivated to change it.
I don't take this bike on the highway so I'm not worried about doing the ton or anything.
And electrical tune up as well as normal tune up should help out a bit too.

I finally got the original tank cleaned up. It had a pretty large dent so I figured I would try my hand at knee dents. I kind of like them.
While doing some routine maintenance, I discovered that the left cylinder plug was really ash ridden. Turns out the carb boot threads were stripped out and I had a small intake leak. I think I got that fixed, have yet to check.
I've been running seafoam in the gas and done a few premature oil changes to help clean out the engine. My main jet might be a bit rich still, but I gained a lot more power! I'm no longer struggling to make it to 85mph.

Here is a short ride video. If you can get past my rambling, the bike sounds good!

I decided to try my hand a fiberglass for a seat. So far so good. I just need to cut and shape the mold a bit more. So far it looks pretty promising.
I taped off the frame.
Once taped off I gave it a good waxing.
It came off really easy.
After a little more trimming and planning, I'll use the mold to hopefully make a stronger better looking seat.

I did a similar jobby on my CSR .Fiberglass seatpan, ditched the rear mudguard and bent up an undertray from aluminium plate Ive angled the numberplate mounting bracket to set the numberplate at an angle that will (hopefully) act as a mudguard. It looks way better than the original set up .Ive still got to do a roadtest though!

The seat pan looks good. If you ride in any weather at all, you'll want something to guard against the mud. I don't hate the fender, but you may want a more modern looking thing like Davido described.
Probably others have mentioned this before, so sorry if you have heard it already:
The front fender acts to brace the forks together so you may want to get some kind of brace up front. THe fender does a lot to help keep water/mud off the coil and top of the motor.
But you should do something with the tank. when the rust gets too far into the metal, it gets harder and harder to bring it back to paint-able condition. Nice job on the knee knockouts too!

I am working on cleaning up the front fender. It will be going back on as soon as it is ready. I am sick of having gravel flung up at my helmet! I have the inner fender; originally I was going to cut it, but decided that would be stupid, if I ever decide to go back to the stockish seat. I will be using it as a guide to make a new one. I will cut an old ratty fender and put it on the rear. The one on there now just sticks out a too far for my liking.
I am finishing up the top end rebuild on my kz750. When it is done, the plan is to get this one stripped down, painted then built back up!
