I worked on the tank today. I think it came out pretty nice. It is filled with apple cider vinegar right now. No leaks, just a few dents. Any ideas on how to go about removing them?

I'm really playing with the idea of a single carb set up. I'm thinking about going with the mikuni VM34.
How are these bikes durability wise? I'm toying with a multi state ride trip when I get her finished up.

I really think the single carb setup is the way to go with these bikes if you have the means to fabricate a new intake manifold. May lose some top end, but I would bet you could bump the low end torque up some.
These engines are like a tractor motor as far as reliability goes. There was a guy who took one all over Noth America and wrote about it.

Thats what I wanted to hear. I am using this thread as a starting point.
kzrider.com/forum/3-carburetor/587526-kz...ngle-carb-conversion
I am in the process of having an intake manifold made. I ordered a Mikuni VM34 and a 160 main jet along with various other parts for the bike. I am going to start the tuning process with the set up that worked for barreto.
When it comes to the frame, I HATE the back end of this bike. The guy who is making my manifold wants to hardtail it. I am thinking I would rather flatten out the back and make it more a scrambler style. The goal is to get it road worthy before we start chopping anything up though.

Dom where are you located? I have a titled 81 440 LTD frame I can sell you. Also if you decide to go with the single carb conversion I'd be a buyer on the old carbs.

That's because he won't be the one riding it. With a hardtail not only will it be uncomfortable, it will handle like a school bus. Bad idea! Ed

I don't know how much I trust a 30 year old belt. Do they make them still? I would like to pick up a spare just in case.

you have to find a used one on ebay. that belt was made by Gates and is strong enough to lift your car.lots gravel roads are the only thing that seems to wear them out.

We didn't get as much done today as I would have liked, but tomorrow we will have a lot more time.
Did a little mock up today. Everything is right, just have to trim it down a bit.

Looking good.
Too bad they don't make a 45 deg "Y" fitting instead of a 90 deg "T". Then you could use two 45 elbows to make the bends more gradual.

I kinda gave up on the copper manifold. I ordered one from 11th hour industries. Hopefully it will get here soon.
