Thanks rstnick........Had to tare into the motor, no compression, found that I had gotten a bad valve job. Right when I was going to try and fire it up. Did a few pre-start checks and found I had no compression. So, off with head, waiting on a valve spring compression tool to dig a little deeper. I knew I should of done it myself.

While I'm down for a few weeks with some cylinder boring and more head work. I'm switching out the glass fuses to spade type. Just to change it up a bit.
I'm installing a led for the plate also.

WOW!!!! This freaking thing is beautiful.
Well Things are back in progress. Larry C. has finished the head work with new valves. Doesn't look anything like the old head, but the black paint. Very professional looking job (but would you expect anything else from Larry C.). Very thankfull for Larry C. and his kind offer to get me back on track.
I purchased a new Wiseco piston set and sent them and the jugs to A.P.E. for the bore and hone job. They should be back in a few weeks and then putting everything behind me and move on with the build.

Looks great!
Since you may still be in the wiring stage, you may want to swap the 1-phase stator and reg/rec for a 3-phase setup. A 3-phase stator from a later year should swap right in. You will just have to add an extra yellow wire for the third phase from stator to reg/rec.
The Dyna S ignition uses a lot more electrical power than stock, and some of the KZ650's with 1-phase stators have had problems keeping their batteries fully charged when running the Dyna S.
At the very least, you may want to run an extra stator wire so you can convert to 3-phase in the future without cutting into the harness too much.
Good luck

Yeah....That would probably be a good idea. I've made a new wiring harness. To add a third wire would not be that bad because that part of the harness is short.

I had to do a 3-phase upgrade on my 650 to fix issues with the Dyna-S and coils. That ignition works great, but it is a power hog.

I know It's been a while that I've posted about this project. The big set back took the wind out of my sails and I put the bike up for a while.
I've started back working on the bike and have made good progress. Got the jug's back from A.P.E and they did a great job. Larry C. did an outstanding job on getting me back on track with the valve job (Big Thanks to
Larry C.).
Got everything reinstalled, and all went back without 1 problem. I have fired it up, and man was that a thrill to hear it running. I still have a few things to do but have been riding it in the neighborhood.
Anyone have a seat?? I'm in need of one.

Thanks.
I had a 1976 KZ900 back in the day and it was the green with green and gold pin stripe. That's what color this KZ650 is going to be.
I'm very happy with the way it's gone so far. Next I'll get it registered and insured and put it on the road before the paint.
Still need a seat if anyone has one up for sale.
