The old seat was custom made for the bike (was a piece of wood with some holes drilled in it) and I'm not sure what the backrest was from, probably a Harley. Everything required holes drilled in the frame. The previous owner had them put on and I sold them a while ago. I replaced them with a KZ1000 LTD seat.
Here are some better pictures of the seat, there isn't much to it.

Starts about 8 pictures down.
As for progress on the KZ, there isn't much because I've been busy on my other bikes. I've been doing a lot of painting blacking out my supermoto and I think I'd have some good results painting the frame myself. This would let me make adjustments, add tabs, and touch up paint after the engine is back in. I'm still learning so I think it's the best option, maybe my next project will have some color powder coating but for now I just want to have this thing done so I can ride it again.
Here I did a couple test coats on part of the finished frame. This is Satin Black VHT roll bar paint that I often see people use on cafe projects. It seems like tough stuff once dry.
Here is my blacked out supermoto for reference. The header heat shield gets really hot and has 5+ coats of the same Stain Black VHT roll bar paint and has held up very well with daily use. The muffler heat shield and rear caliper protector are painted with Satin Black Krylon Fusion and had also held up well although I have some UV protected clear coat to put over it. I think I may start blacking everything out on the KZ1000p as well. Powder coating is just too much stress because it forces me to get everything perfect the first time.

After crashing my KDX250 and fracturing a vertebrae, I wanted very badly to convert the thing to hip street bike.... however, no mo dough.

The frame is ready to have the paint stripped.
I was hoping I could save this sticker but it was destroyed once paint stripper got under it so I removed it. Maybe I'll make another or rivet on a VIN plate.
Here is the paint stripper I used, I highly recommend this stuff. It's amazing and completely safe.
To show how well this works, this is only 15-20 minutes after applying it.
I let it sit for a couple days like this.
It had trouble with some of the undersides so I flipped the frame around and did the other side.
This is where it sits now and it will stay over the weekend because I'll be in Lake Havasu. Once I'm back I'll hose it off and see how it looks.

I dragged the frame into the driveway and hosed it off. About 80% of the paint came off with the hose. Some parts required scrubbing with a wire brush but it came off very easy.
I did one more coat of SOY Gel paint stripper on each side and let it sit for an hour. Overall the SOY Gel works great and I used just under half a gallon. I will strip the swingarm and kickstand but first I want to get the tabs welded and rearsets mounted. I also need to make an aluminum tray under the seat and start working on the wiring. I'm going to the shop tomorrow to try to repair the cooling fins on the engine before it gets put back together.
I got most of the frame sanded down. It came out better than I expected.
I found the VIN on the frame, never noticed it before with all the gunk.

We leveled the frame and measured from both sides to start.
Mocking up the side cover I think the stock GSXR shift linkage will work. We marked where I wanted them on the frame. He had to cut down the lower tab 1/4th inch so everything is straight.
He tack welded both rearsets based on the measurements and we spent almost 30 minutes moving it around slightly and looking at it from all sides (even stood on the table) to get it as perfect as possible.
Now that everything looks good it's welded into place.
Here is it is all cleaned up. I'm very happy with it. The welder cost $80 and took an hour.
So much more to do.
