As far as getting the pilot jet out that is still stuck, try some heat. Either a small butane torch, maybe a bit of time in some near boiling water, you get the idea.
The paint looks good and you masked them off very good. Should look nice and bright, I take it that was what you were after. Should be nice.
The mixture screws have a setting for turns out from lightly seated. Its 1 1/2 turns in the manual. But I'd start with 2 turns out, which is slightly richer. It will need fine adjusting once the motor is warmed, the carbs are rebalanced etc. There are some good home made manometers in "File Base". I like the yard stick and clear tubing with ATF. Works real good. Cost $6-$7.

Alright, had to put the KZ on the back burner for a bit.
Starting to throw things back together bit by bit. Budget is super tight right now.

I'm not into full-bodied bikes, the style of that vetter kit is downright ugly to me. Not to mention it was completely trashed- all the plastic was cracked in one place or another, the chrome was completely rusted, paint gone, windscreen yellowed, etc etc etc.
So, no.
I got a good deal on two parts bikes, one is a nearly complete '82 A2 (missing the bodywork) and the other is an '81. Will be picking them up in April sometime.
I had left the rims, fenders, and tank outside for a while, i live in AZ it shouldn't be too harsh on them outside in the shade with hardly any rain.
WRONG. The gas tank was empty when I put it there. Went to move it yesterday and it was heavy and sloshing. FML. No idea how 1/2 gallon or more of water got in there, cap was closed and locked! I got the key and opened it up, rustier than sin now. I was hoping to just sand and paint the tank, now I"m going to have to completely strip it down inside and out, make sure it hasn't rusted through everywhere, re-seal it, and paint from self-etch up.

Oh, and any suggestions on decently priced replacement rear shocks?
I found these but I'm not sold on the look.
I like the all-black look of these ones but they are for harley. I guess for the price savings, I can just mod them.
I'm not even sure how long the stock shocks are supposed to be, since my bike didn't have them.

Here's what it looks like with tank and stuff mocked up
Now to decide which way to go with the paint, red scallops on black,
or black scallops on red.
opinions?

Yeah that's what I was thinking.
The black almost contrasts too much, alot going on.
The rims will be dropped off for PC today, I'm having them done two-tone red and black, with the black part of the stock rim pc'd red, and the machined part black.
Ordered some parts, black clubman bars, 7" headlamp w/brackets, caswell tank sealer.
Fun times ahead!

More pics!
You'll notice I inverted the clubman bars. Just not enough clearance with that big arse tank, didn't get full turning radius with it.
