I cleaned of the clutch hub and installed the rest of the clutch with APE friction plates and springs. I also installed the new pistons and clocked the rings. I took a leaf out of Zed1015's book and put heat shrink on the inner 6 head studs so they wont show rust years down the road.
I picked up the caliper mounts from the machinst. He made them out of 7050, an alloy I had never heard of before. He showed me a coil chip left over from machining, and man it is tough stuff! I need to get some appropriate hardware to mount them. I also had him machine a and knurl some parts for a stainless kickstand. I will finalize the foot of the kickstand once i have a rolling chassis. I painted the frame, but in order to get paint way up by the head stock gussets I had to use a brush and got some drips. I need to sand them down and throw another coat of paint on and this thing can start going back together

Got the jugs on I was fartin around trying to get different kinds of hose clamps to compress the rings and I couldn't get anything to work for me. I ended up compressing the rings by hand and working the pistons in. what a pain in the butt!
I have seen people putting clay in the cylinders to measure the clearance between the pistons and the head. is this necessary for 1075 pistons? the manual makes no mention of it.

vic claying the pistons only really comes into play when you start going with high lift cams.

i never use ring compressors on kz piston installs.
and it's a pain in the a$$ every time.

sure is nice when it's done tho !

I am planning on running Web 118 cams. supposed to be mild. should i check with clay?

the 118's are supposed to be a drop in cam.so you shouldn't have to clay your pistons.

cool, thanks Leon. hopefully ill get some garage time this weekend and finish putting together the top end.

I cleaned and inspected the shim buckets before i put them in the head and 2 of them are dinged up and cracked. What is a good starting point for shims on a fresh head? The shim sizes i was running on break down were 285-290 for intake and 305-310 for exhaust.

do you have plenty of shims?
if so i would prolly install all the smallest shims i had and start measuring from there.

a fellow member here has got some new shim buckets coming my way. Leon- those are the only shims I have, should i get thinner ones?
