Cleaning up the frame after removing the rails going up to the (now removed) rear shock mounts. Also created couple of endcaps for those open tubes and tack welded them in place (but haven't taken any pics)
My idea for the lower seat supports is to curve a piece of tubing up from just above where the old tubes were cut and back to the upper rails where the upward bend is at the back of what will be the seat. There will be a pretty big contact patch on both ends and the arch of the curve should be pretty strong. I also like the idea of more curves, as that's what I like best about '70s machinery.
If it works, (or not) I'll post pics here.
The million dollar question now is how to create the upper shock point. I've got a few ideas, but I think I'll need to get a little farther down the road before the right solution presents itself.
I want to find wheels and create a rolling chassis before I finish weld everything so that the geometry isn't strange. I'm going to try favor a modern trail/rake setup.
So far, I have a '06 zx636 rear wheel that should be arriving this week, and looking for a front from the same machine (or zx-6r, which should be the same unless I missed something in my research). As money is a little tight at the moment, I'm having to wait patiently for the right deal to come along.
No worries, really, as I have plenty to keep me busy in the meantime.

Yeah, the sub-frame bracing is the next step. I'll post here.

Had to bend some tube for the sub-frame, so ventured a little deeper into the dark art of metal work.
