78 KZ 1000 project

Thats not surprising at all. These bikes are almost bullet proof

no crash bars,no sissy bar,and an aluminum 16 rim and blue paint and that was my funnest summer Z ever...stock pipes and all it would do throttle wheelies and keep on ticking,i beat that bike ,it ran perfect....i really did 0% upkeep and it ran hard the whole time i had it...my youth and a prefect cali summer and i was prone to spend long hrs shooting pool,drinking pitchers at a sit,and playing the jukebox,that bike was my sidekick....:ohmy:

you have a really nice bike...i'd clean it up and keepp it just like it is...it's close enough now to normal that it is worth not moddding this one imo.....super duper nice..oh did i mention i love that bike...:woohoo:

Thanks Tri, just gonna refurb it, came apart pretty quick today spent 2 hrs on it and engine will be out early next week ( need help lifting it out ) replacing rear wheel with 18". Once engine is blasted and frame is painted I will pick away at it, long winter in the northeast lol

sweet ride...i run a 78 one upgrade u should consider is dual disc upfront. mine has it and it stops on a dime. big difference in my book,,,,happy motoring btw be careful, these ol kaws are addicting.

My vote would be to keep it as stock as possible. Too many chopped up KZ's available out there already if you want one to mod or customize. That paint looks pretty good for 32 yrs old. My green '78 gets a lot of complements everywhere I go. Your bike looks like it has a lot of potential. Hit the rusted chrome with some SOS pads and water and you might be surprised how well it cleans up. Wax it when done cleaning to help preserve it.
