nice bike, hard to beat a powdercoated frame(if you decide to tear it down)money and time would dictate which i would do.
there are rubber gaskets that fit between the guages and dash.those seat rail covers get broken by pushing the bike around with the seat off and leanin into them when pushing, usually.

those folks have the screen you need.
keep us posted we don't get to see many z1r projects.

that fin can be fixed but i don't think i would pull a head just to fix it,but if it was coming off anyway then i would fix it.

Nice ride. B)
i would keep it stock and just get it going for now. it may run just fine with a little work.

thanks for the info. yeah i was looking at it today and it isnt in that bad of shape. it does have the rubber that goes around the gauges. they are starting to dry rot. im going to take it down and have the frame either painted or powder coated. probably powder coated. that will give me chance to really clean everything really good and get a good look at the wiring. im working nights right now. 4 tens. so i get a long weekend. so when the kids go to bed ive got all night to play.:woohoo:

Cool project. As for the swingarm bearings, I believe that there is a special tool made for pulling them. I got mine out by hammering them from the opposite side. I ruined a socket extension in the process.

The swingarm bearings are tough, here's what I came up with to do mine. This is copied directly from my project thread.

JakeB wrote:

My third and final attempt was to grind two flat spots onto a washer that was a little smaller than the bearings. These flat spots let me slip the washer into the swing arm and turn it so that it caught the lip on the inside of the bearing. I then found the largest socket that would fit through the opposite bearings, 15 mm in my case, and put it on a long extension. Then I was able to tap the bearings out evenly from the opposite side.

Once the first side of bearings was out I just grabbed a bigger socket that contacted the bearing lip without the washer and tapped the other bearings out.

Here is a pic of my ultra-simple-bearing-driver-adapter. You can see it got beat up a bit from just removing the bearings on one side, but for the price and quantity needed for the job I'm ok with it being disposable! :)

If I remember correctly it was a 3/8" washer that fit in there.

Hope this helps!

it is necessary to take the bearings out if you are powder coating the swingarm right? if not then i wont mess with them.
