KZ900 A4 in kansas

About a month and a half ago a buddy of mine found this kz900 in pretty poor shape. It has about 53,000 miles, a few small oil leaks. I did a small amount of carb work to get her running. Did a few other things. I'm working on getting her completely up and running. I really want to do a full engine rebuild. Hopefully I will only need to hone the cylinders and not bore them. I have tons of questions and I think this site will help me out a lot.

Hey if anyone on here is in the Wichita area please hit me up. I would love to have someone to talk shop with and help me out getting everything fixed up on my bike.

More pictures to arrive shortly. Hopefully by February I'll have everything buttoned up and work like new.

Oh yeah and she needs a lot of love. This is my first bike and I'm really excited to tear her down and get her back to like new or better.

more there than missing...it'll come together....55,000 is high miles...but these things can go a long ways....more important is how it runs...if it runs good and makes some ticking and smokes some when you start it ....then it is just a good runnign old kz....may go a ways yet.....may just run for years.....

Well I'm hoping after a few small issues getting fixed she'll run like a top. Just tested compression looks like she's got a bad set of piston rings on 1 cylinder and needs some valve adjustments so once I hone the cylinders, get new piston rings, replace all the gaskets and do the valves she'll be running really nice. Might throw in a wg carb rebuild into the mix at some point. She's going to be a nice running bike once I'm done with here. Now I just need to find the side panels for it. Here's the tanks and back panel pictures after paint.

Uh oh! You're getting too close for comfort! Speaking of Tablerock, I bought a John Deere row header from a guy just west of there a few weeks ago.

Welcome aboard, Krusty. BTW, have you checked the tappet clearances yet? If one or the other (exhaust or intake) is too tight you'll get a low compression reading. At least on that engine you don't have to pull the cams to change shims.

So finally got the motor apart...And to my surprise and delight not much wrong with her. A vavle job new seals and gaskets. oil change and a good cleaning and she'll be good to go. Pictures will be posted tomorrow.

Paint job does look good. I've done the same thing....got the bike painted, then going to tear into the engine. Hopefully mines in as good condition as yours.
