1980 KZ 1000 LTD in Barn. Must Value for Family
12 Sep 2009 18:56
Hi, I found this forum while trying to locate any information about how much a one owner, 1980 1000 LTD is worth. My brother bought it new and now is in a bad way. The family must liquidate his assets. This bike is in the barn. Turns over with the kick start so not seized. The mileage is 6,864 original miles. He lived on the farm and didn't ride alot. Has not ran in at least 4-5 years. He had other bikes.
I will pull it out and attempt to get it running so it can be sold to pay medical (no insurance, no medicaid because they will take the farm "literally").
What can I expect from the market if it's running or I sell as is?
Thanks for your help!

Clean that bike up as good as you can. That is one of the most desirable colors of LTD there is.
Don't change anything. You would be best to sell it as barn find. Prices are down on bikes. Roy

Thanks for the advice. I can post it in the classifieds here I guess. Any other places that might get good exposure from the right crowd?

If you know anything about bikes and can remove the carbs, clean out the gas tank and check for fire. Go for it.
If you don't know bikes leave it alone as buyers would pay more for it as is than they would if you tried to fix it.
If it were mine i would blow the dust off it and give it a two can wd 40 bath and let it sit for a couple of hours and then blow it off with compressed air. Roy

They are Beautiful Bikes. The 1000 was my brothers. I owned a 750 of the same year. Wish I had it now, I'd start a collection and auction it off as a matched set.

My plan is to pull it out and clean the tank, check for fire, drain and refill crankcase, clean the carbs and see what I get.

Please take pictures after it is clean. Look for the owners manual and tool kit. Roy
