So I still haven't gotten to the valves yet, and I seem to have a small leak around the valve cover gasket, but the weather has allowed some saddle time... loving this bike! These pods that I have are awful, and I am getting the stereotypical surging on the highway, I'm going to replace with K&Ns at some point. Anyways here are a few new pics:

Now as a newbie to the KZs is this gas tank really held on by that little rubber bungee by the front of the seat?!?

Yep that is how they are held down from the factory. That bike looks like a pretty good basis for a project. Do you know what direction you intend to go with it? I've got a 77 LTD 1000 here with similar mileage I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with.

(In my best Obi Wan Kenobi-JEDI voice)

Andy......You want to take the LTD 1000 to Mid-Ohio in July, sign the title over to Brian, and load it in the back of Brian's truck......

SO, Gringo...... What's up these days? Any recent epiphanies on what to do with the 77 LTD 1000 you've got laying around?

Very nice bike and good deal also. A bone stock (properly tuned) Z1 or KZ1000 shd grab your attention pretty quick... and if you hotrod them well..... it just gets FREAKIN AWESOME! (lol) Keep up the nice work! Doug

My plan is basically to get everything running right this summer, and ride it as is. Over the winter, I'd like to take it down to the frame, and then... brace the frame, re-spring the front end, and switch to a dual disk set up, new rear shocks, and and engine rebuild with all of the go fast goodies. I am still researching, but I'm thinking, 1075cc kit, bigger carbs, crank, dyna ignition etc. I want the bike to look as close to stock as possible!
I went down to my local bike shop yesterday and found out that the guy is a KZ freak. He has four KZ1000 drag bikes, a scary looking KZ1000 (1075) chopper, and his daily rider is a 1978 KZ1000 supercharged (he estimates with the supercharger and rest of the mods 200+ HP on race fuel!!!) Needless to say he has a ton of extra parts!

OK, been a while... I toyed with the idea of selling, but honestly, I've really developed a soft spot for this old bike! Here is the latest pic... I will be tearing the bike down this winter. As far as I can tell, needs new gaskets, valve seals, valve adjustment and carbs are still not quite synched. I need some advise from the old salts here. I would like the best street set up. I am planning 1075... dyna ignition set up and going from there.
