remember those roller bearings convert from rollers to sliders once you get to the neighborhood of 10,000 rpms, yet another reason to build more lowend/midrange into your motors. B)

I had the tach already. I thought you weren't supposed to shift these bikes much over 10K rpm? Something about roller cranks or something? :S

I figured my shift points would be around 8500 or so since I thought the motor was mostly stock and had stock carbs, but it really does seem to want to keep pulling past that.

That's where I set the light for now at least.

What's done to your streetbike that you shift at 10,000?

Like I said, I'm learning about these bikes as I go...I'm soaking up the info on this site like a sponge.

My friend has a 95 CBR900RR and he's awfully cocky. I know I probably have a way to go, but I don't want his head to get so big he has to buy another helmet or anything.

as long as your spending majority of your time on the street just keep doing whatyour doing, just remember low/midrange.on the big inch pig motors i like to build im usually scared to death by the time they hit 8 grand since theyre trying to twist the bars out of your hands and toss you like a mad bull !

Thanks oldkaws...I need a sidewinder like yours for the look I'm going for, but I really like the pipe I already have too. Life threatening decisions, lol.

I uncovered it again today, as it looks like the rain has stopped for a couple days and I want to ride to work tomorrow.

Since I had to fix a blown fuse and find the short too, I couldn't just stop there!

I decided to shorten up the front turn signal stalks, as they have been annoying me for quite some time.

On the chopping block

If it ain't broke...then I haven't touched it yet!

On the CNC machine

Finished product

Much better

Unfortunately I was in a rush to clean up and forgot to take a final picture when it was all done. I'm sure I'll get one at some point.

Passed inspection, no more temporary tag for me!

Beautiful day too.

I immediately went home and took the baffle back out. It's like riding a totally different bike.

She won't even rev cleanly past 6K rpm with the baffle in, I packed 'er up tight! Was real quiet though, kinda like riding a vacuum cleaner.

good to hear ya passed inspection, it got up to 85 degrees here today so i took out my 400 to go cruising around on. I lucked out on the pipe i got it on ebay for a buy me know price of 120, and 20 bucks to ship it, it was in good condition with no rust, 3 outa 4 of the head pipes were blued.....and now that i started it all 4 of them are a deep blue almost purple color.....lol, the only flaw in it the guy put a balongia cut in the back, but i ordered a vance and hines compatition baffle for it.....hopefully it fits......i love the open header sound, but i dont think the local police will like it...

All you have to do is ride the bike the way you want but whenever you see the police or need to be a little more noise-conscience, just back off the throttle and coast by. When you are by far enough, you just crack the throttle up some more. Easy! :)

I haven't had any trouble from cops or anything around here. There are a lot of Harley's running around just as loud if not louder than me. It does have some bad resonance at 4Krpm, which unfortunately is the most common cruising speed in top gear right now! :(

Besides that I can modulate the noise fairly well with the throttle.

As for my CNC machine, I can make whatever I want with enough time...until my hand gets tired. A good file is an extremely useful tool.

Replied by tachrev on topic Cafe Underseat Electronics Pan
Started working on a pan to mount all my electronics under the seat, cafe style. I decided this was the way to go when I lost a sidecover a while back.

Went to Lowes and bought a 6x18 22G piece of steel, some wings nut, washers, and 1/4-20 bolts.

With some 2x4's and a big ass C-clamp, I made a rudimentary metal brake.

Here's what I ended up with, marked to be cut. I reused the c-clamp and 2x4 to get a straight-ish cut with my sawzall.

I made two small L shaped brackets to hang the front from the sidecover mounts.

I also had to notch it to fit around the seat latch, using some sheetmetal shears and my vise. I still have to arrange the wiring and mount the regulator. The starter solenoid hangs from the bottom.

I am pretty happy with it so far considering having to make do with my lack of proper metalworking tools.
