the 74 z1 turbo project again

The LTD fender off a 81 or newer bike is wider then the ones off an 80 and older LTD. Something to check into! I tried to find a decent 18" rear tire for my turbo and the pickings are SLIM! If you can, I would go for the 17" rim. I'm thinking of doing that myself just so I can have a much better selection of tires. I believe a 5.5" rim is the widest you can find but you can still mount up to a 190 tire on them although a 180 is best and a 170 would flatten out to give a better footprint for all the megadoses of ponies you plan on hitching to that bike of yours. I also think the forks off a J model bike is a little wider also, so maybe the whole front end could be used?

It would probably be easier to go with a 17 - 18 combo, but if you decide to go 18 rear and 19 front, they do make a 180 and a 120 in those sizes, and they are for the V-rod. Here's the link just in case. These are really expensive too, probably because they are so rare.

well now for my next question since i used to build bikes with moses and he always swore by bias ply tires,i think he was a bit biased himself !(get it,biasesd?:woohoo: )so anyway who makes a decent radial tire these days?i love metzelers biases ply tires and have always hated dunlop aka dont grips since my early z1 days,so who makes a decent reasonbly sticky radial tire these days of the ones on that page in the 120/19 front and 180 rear ?:S

This is a me 880 140 on a 4.25 rim. They have a 180 in a 18, and a 120 in a 19. The 140 and 4.25 rim combo is a sweet addition for those looking to keep the stock swingarm. You need a 5/8 offset sprocket and the wheel needs to go all the way to the back of the guides.

I know what you mean - I went 17 on the rear and 18 on the front just so I could get a matching pair of radials in the sizes I wanted.

There is a possibility that the HD V-rod tires might work. I think they might be 18 rear and 19 front, but don't quote me on that. Might be worth looking into though.

If you'd consider a 16" rear, there's a super deal on eBay that was just listed. It's a 5.5 x 16 rim, brand new for $75. I wish I liked the 16's but I just don't...

Not sure if it will fit a KZ though - do all 40 spoke rims work or can they be drilled differently for different hubs??

I absolutely love what you are in to with all of the gusseting and ideas. I see you guys on here making these bikes run like red headed stepchildren with freckles and buck teeth get beat and fast like a raped aped running through the jungle and it makes me feel proud.
Just when do these bikes need major gusseting if you are just going to run them on the street is a question in my mind. I am getting excited about getting my bike done although it will be a street bike. The way that you guys are doing things I may just make one of my bikes in to a strip bike because I love the feel of acceleration so much. lol
I really respect what you do even if others have opinions. Thanks for sharing your project and forget about the rest of the so called "haters". I never knew the meaning of that word until recently. There really are people who can't be happy with their accomplishments in life that they have to belittle others or try and short circuit them from their stride.

how do ya think i got the pacemaker?:laugh: i think 200 plus hp at the rear wheel of a bike that has a frame with the same structural integrity of a bunch of old water piping welded together is a good excuse to gusset things,although i was raised by a pack of anal retentive railroad blacksmiths and i do commercial /industrial wiring and plumbing which does tend to make me overbuild things!:laugh:
