1982 KZ750E winter rebuild

So this is my first KZ, bought it in the spring for very cheap, not running.... cleaned the carbs, replaced the front tire and put 4,500 miles on it this summer, its a very comfy bike and faster then i thought it would be... is it normal to hit 75-80 in 3rd on this old bike? either way i completly took this thing apart, i have been a mechanic for little over 10 years, 6 years of doing resto work, so how hard could this be?
so heres some before pics. The bike has 42,500 on it
From the outside all that i can see is that the air box was removed, the smog was removed and has a Youshimara 4-1 race pipe

so here is the frame, stripped ans in the background is the motor, removed the topend and the bottom, seems very clean inside

fitting the seat and rear plastic back on......
now heres where i could use some help, does it help to have the seat redone with fabric before i make mounting tabs for the rear plastic?

ok so now for a question on the motor, i pull off the cam cover and find it a little too clean, no wear on cams, no build up any where, the cams are stamped with R1 and it does have a tach drive, i have been doing some reading but not sure what the R1 is... anyone help on that? i did do a leak down on the motor and found one cylinder had a leaking exhaust valve, had 15% leakage, so gona freshin the head and recheck everything, anything else i need to do? gona replace the clutch friction plates and ordered a Roller Clutch Push Rod Kit......

Check the valve shims before pulling the head. You may just have a valve hanging open because of a large shim.



Just a though, no reason not to clean up the valves, but with such a low mileage motor i think you would probably be pretty set.

well heres the first coat of primer, now remember im in PA its not too warm here, gota heat the shed then paint, not so fun, but when your on a budget, well then i deal with it......
