Why?
Does your government forbid such 'modifications' to frames?

bad kaw,yes your frame mounted fairing idea sounds workable.much like late model sport bike fairings are mounted, correct?it would take some mock-up to get the fairing close enough to the front end to look right.because when mounted on the frontend it can be mounted close to the legs.and if frame mounted there has to be enough room to turn the frontend without contacting the forklegs and handlebars.we would also need to mount the headlight in the fairing.what about guages?or are you going to purchase one of those badazzed high dollar motogadget thingys that roy dangled in front of us?:laugh:what is FRP?are those the ones that airtech offers?

FRP: Fiberglass ReProductions (I think), they make motorcycle bodywork, and made their initial success with the drag-bike industry b/c their stuff is so insanely light, and looks exactly right. My FRP fairing is a fraction of the industrial-grade :) stocker. If you mount different handlebars the bars can find 'relief' in the standard "notches" of the Z1R fairing, and *poof*, you have no clearence problems with the handlebars. I'm thinking two points of mount on the steering head, as far apart as possible for maximum rigidity, and then keep it narrow and no fork will turn far enough to interfere with that.
Yeah, I have to 'fess up that I'll be spending a little coin and getting some fancy-schmancy gage to replace my stockers. That will eleviate any problems that I'd have with mucking-up the stockers, and it'd give me some design freedom in placing/locating wires, etc. Still not exactly sure what I'm going to do for the headlight, the stocker would be a natural fit...buuuuuuut... :)

it would sure help my visualization skills to be able to see your bike with the frontend in relation to the frame.i'm sure it could work it is just getting the packaging to "look" right.you just can't leave anything alone can you?:laugh:how long have you had your fairing?

Your discussion on mounting to the steering area sounds similar to the mount on my Rickman fairing.

The frame mounted Rickman fairing I have has a single bar coming from an angle iron piece bolted to the steering stem area.

This mount then has a cage around that supports the headlight. At the top of this cage there are two mounts for the fairing.
The bottom wings of the fairing each get a mount that attches to an engine mount near the swingarm pivot.

hey rstnick, thanks for the pictures(light comes on realization hits).i really like the rickman fairing on your bike, and i can see that bad kaws frame mounted idea could work with a similar mount.it would need a couple small additions to mount the bottom of the fairing from the neck mount also.and then to tuck it in as close to the forklegs as possible so as to not look gangly(long neckeded).i could also fabricate some mounts that went around the forklegs similar to the way the factory fairing mounts.except they would fit inverted frontends.then the fairing could be pulled in as tight as possible to the front end.i am game to try to mount it any way as long as we can use bad kaws z1r for the test bed:woohoo: .i do think it might be cool frame mounted though.some of my apprehension could stem from the first time i rode a gpz750 with a frame mounted fairing, and when i turned and the fairng didn't turn with the frontend i freaked out and ran into the ditch  (although that would never happen now that i am an adult:P ).
RoyNor: Yes, even change the forks to something difference are forbidden.
although the laws are so strict in norway somehow i bet that doesn't keep some outlaws from converting there bikes over to more modern suspensions .and maybe if they get caught they would have to move to america where we can modify till our hearts content . :silly:

it is a 1969 t120 650 dual carbs.needs me to spend some time and money on it.i am a little lost when it comes to lucas electronics.it was running 10 or 11 years ago and my dad adjusted the points, there was something weird about them 2 sets or something.hasn't ran since.my dad was incarcerated right after that and it was hid-out for awhile.until i had some where to store it.my brother lost his bonneville to the evil stepmother,he saved his gpz1100 and his shovelhead.i also lost a few (5-6) 900's and 1000's.plus six cop bikes, enough to build three complete and a couple bobbers, assorted cars and trucks.i still have a hard time thinking about it.i was able to get the stuff that was sentimental but lost alot of projects.she kept telling us everything was fine and then we find out she gave the land and everything to the church.:( and the church was not very giving if you know what i mean.
