New member here.......from beautiful Western North Carolina. Not new to motorcycles or wrenching but new to Kawasaki's and mutil cylinder engines.

PLEASE somebody tell me I haven't lost my mind and made a BIG mistake bringing home this 2002 KZ1000 Police bike. A little over 16,000 miles on the clock, seems to be in good shape and the price was right......I just had to have it. Not sure if I made a mistake or not......but so far I'm as happy as a little girl.

Hope the honeymoon last for at least some of the riding season. Also hope I don't have to start asking a TON of questions just to keep it going.

Cheers to all........Gordon in NC

If you have lost your mind, you have come to the correct asylum :silly:

We have seen quite q few members here over the last several year who owned KZPs. At least one was a full blown restoration, many were mildly modified, and there were a couple of fairly radical transformations. Before getting in too deeply, it would be a good idea to pick up a copy of the genuine factory service manual, and the appropriate police bike supplement. The manual is usually not too difficult to find, but I believe the supplement can be a challenge. I have the 1981-83 KZ1000/1100 manual in PDF. If you would like a copy, we can exchange email addresses through the private message function on this forum.
There is a wealth of knowledge around here, so don't hesitate to ask questions.
Oh yes, we are picture addicts. You may want to figure out how. To post them fairly soon

Thanks for the quick replies fellows. I'm at work and can't post photo's from here but really it's a stocker and will stay that way but I will post a photo or two just so you know .....I know what it is.

I've been wrenching and riding since 1968 and have been down this road before ( no pun intended). I simply HATE Clymers or Haynes manuals......pretty much useless in my book. I'm a fan of factory manuals and I'm searching for one of those and the supplement. I can't imagine owning a bike with out the proper manual. Parts are different, pretty much all the venders have breakdowns of those for free and you gota love that.

OIL????? I won't start that one but I have my favorite.....and have done thousands of miles on it. Tools?????? been down the JIS road....no problem there, I'm a bit of a tool junky anyway.

Photo's when I get home tonight....but we're not talking anything special......just a stock black and white 2002 KZ1000 Police and I plan on leaaving it that way.

Thanks again for the welcome and replies......looking forward to being part of this group......if you have to explain the love of motorcycles to someone.....they will NEVER get it.

Cheers........Gordon in NC

Welcome Gordon, You will love the cop bike. It is a hoot to ride and does really well on those NC mountain roads. If you keep it stockish it is smooth, quiet and comfortable. About the only downside is people freaking out and slowing down when you get behind them.

Thanks for the welcome gpz..... I haven't had a chance to ride it much but the little that I have....(once I got over the nerves) it's been sweet.

I've never owned/ridden anything with more than two cylinders. Nothing with floorboards, heel/toe and a fixed fairng. I'm 66 and have been riding and wrenching since 1968. For most of that time my main focus was ( and still mostly is) small unit single BSAs. I've had several different kind of bikes over the years and the stable has a few non Brits in it now.

BUT nothing like this thing. I SWORE many times you'd NEVER catch me on a 4 cylinder bike.....4 carbs???? you have to be out of your mind. BUT......I was looking for something "different" that I could afford and I saw this thing......you might know the drill? You see a photo of it.....catches your eye but it's something you'd never own......but the price is right and damn it's looks interesting. You keep coming back to it and then finally......BAM you drop the coin and it's yours.

First Kawasaki, first four cylinder, first floorboards, first heal/toe......first fixed faring. But if it's anything like sex ( if you love motorcycles, I think it is).....you NEVER forget your first time.

I have to admit I love it so far and now that I have my hands on one.......heck 4 or more of everything might not be so bad.

BIG rain storm headed this way and will probably get here by the time I get home........photos if and when I can....I promise.

Happy as a little girl........Gordon in NC

Looks pretty clean Gordon. I have been looking for a rear seat / backrest like that for mine.
BTW, the side bags are perfect for beer runs.
