Hi everyone, just bought a GPZ750R1, hoping to do some tasty mods as funds allow, I'll probably need a little help with the Kawasaki, I'm more familiar with old Honda 4's....

Welcome. If you're talking about the SOHC models, you'll find these are a different animal. :whistle:

Hi Steve, yes mate SOHC's, I've owned plenty of twin cams too my friend, just none of the early 80's Kawasaki's... Always wanted one though ;)

Welcome to the KZ family in general and the dual shock GPz750 brotherhood specifically,

Not a better group to get info from in here.

I take it from the red paint on the rims and the "cheers" you aren't in the states.

Miller had a SOHC 750 bored out to 1015. Hard tail frame, girder front end, HD fat tanks, Del Orto carbs, etc. That thing would move. He called it his Honda Davidson. :lol:

Pardon my french, but that R1 looks all to good to mod. Save that one and pick up a basket case like I did. By your pic I guess that you live in northern europe where molested Z750 are cheap and easy to find.

I'm in Australia, still got it for a song though, all of the changes I plan on making are reversible, I'm not a "chop it up" cafe racer fan, I like the 70's and 80's style superbikes,

I have a 1000cc a 970cc and a 900cc which I'm currently putting together, all in boxes at the moment... I needed something to ride hence the R1... ;)

Welcome. The GPz750R1 is a great bike, Yours looks pretty good but that rear fender/mudguard has got to go!

That's pretty much what I'm doing. If that's what you'd like to do go for it. I'm passing my good take off parts to those that are restoring their GPz's rather than hoarding them.

I can't wait to see your build thread. BTW ZR7s use a ton of parts that are compatible with the KZ750 and in many ways they are improved. If you are interested the 6 speed KZ550 transmission fits in the 750 crank case.

Yes, the rear guard is the red headed step child of the Kawasaki world, its going.

US style rear fenders from KZ750E, R1 and KZ700 and KZ750L bolt right on and can be found on Ebay
