New To the KZ bikes was created by badams215236
Hello,

I recently started working on a 1983 KZ1100D2. I intend to get all the systems working properly and after that who knows what direction the project will take. from what I've seen there is a ton of great info on these bikes here and I am looking forward to adding to it as my project progresses.

yea I know... It's lousy to talk about a bike and not add pics. I'm in the office and don't have any to add at the minute. I will post some here tonight when I get home. The bike is damn near all original and in my opinion is about an 80% machine as it sits.

Welcome,

This is the best forum for vehicles hands down. You are going to do about ten times as many things in your bike than you ever dreamed of.

Ask me how I know...

Here she is. I am currently working on putting the stock air box back into the bike and then finish sorting out the carbs. I went through and rebuilt all 4 of the carbs last weekend and got it running again. After I get it running well I will need to rebuild the forks. I am thinking about adding a mac 4 into 1 exhaust to it as well. I bought this bike for my wife to ride 2 years ago. I have been riding for 16 years now and sold my Vulcan 1600 classic this spring after my daughter was born. the wife never got around to getting a license so the KZ sat in garage. since my available time to ride has gone done drastically for the next little while I sold the big bike and started to sort this one out. when I bought it, it ran but not all that great. I have found out that there have been some "poorly qualified " people that have work on it in the past. the jets were all wrong. I have a cam cover bolt that is stripped, and many poor wiring repairs. this will be a long project, but I have a soft spot for old jap bikes, especially Kawasaki's.

You may be surprised that 1100cc inline 4 is probably a bit quicker than that "big" 1600 twin. There's a reason all them thar crotch rockets are inline motors instead of v-twins.

And that does appear to be a pretty clean bike, even has the rear grab bar

I have been working on sorting things out on the bike and got to start riding it the other day. It definitely has plenty of snort. All I have left to do is sort out the jetting and the suspension and It will be ready to carve up the twisties.
