Hi all! was created by ididntdoit1869
Hello everyone, i found this site while looking up information on the motorcycle i bought last night, its a 1977 yamaha kz650. My last (and first) bike was an 88 yamaha fz750 sport bike. So i don't have a ton of experience with bikes yet, but I can wrench just about anything, so after i take it apart once or twice i'll know everything about it :)
Here is a pic of it, not the best condition, but i picked it up for cheap, and just wanted to be out there riding again. I need to put rear turn signals, mirrors, and the battery is pretty weak. The guy i bought it from had taken it on trade last fall from a guy who said he was going to race it (hence the removal of the turn signals and mirrors) and had a receipt for $1000 worth of parts that guy had put into it in 2015 to get it ready.
Anyway, here she sits for now, I can't wait for spring now. I'm sure i'll have a bunch of questions once i start work on it,

Welcome. First off it's not a Yamaha. You probably already know that. Typo? Parts are cheap on eBay and there's a few guys here that have parts for sale too. (Look up for sale)
The blue flames are cool, just not my "cup of tea."
Get a new battery and check the valve adjustments. Most guys are too lazy or cheap to do them and go to the carbs only to find they have to do them anyway. :S

It looks as though your kickstand might be a little bent at the mounting bolt, but it might be me

Yeah, it has a title

Oops, yeah, I was trying to think of what my last bike was and got Yamaha stuck in my head.

I'll have to check that stand out, hadn't noticed.

I took it out for a few minutes today (almost 50degrees in Iowa, I had to check it out). Runs great, I have no speedo, or guage lights , like the neutral light, nor do the 2 front turn signals work. Pretty sure that neutral light was lit up yesterday when I bought it. Wondering if the wiring for the rear turns is grounding out and causing that? I was digging around in there making sure all the wiring was there.

No, I'll have to locate one before I start messing with it. Actually the reason I joined this site earlier was I saw lots of good documents I may need later.

Welcome!

The neutral light wire loves to comes lose. It's a bit of a PIA to get to, it's easier on my GPz750 but finally I crimped the crap out of it after having to pull the sprocket cover off for the fifth or sixth time.

The blinker circuits front and back are tied together. They will probably work fine once you replace the rears.
