Ola from Belgium Z1000J was created by Lacher
Hi all,

I'm from Belgium and recently acquired this kawasaki Z1000J. I got it very cheap because the owner thinks the engine seized and it was standing outside for a few years now. I had no idea what these bikes are worth though, but just made an offer. I still have to dig into the stuff about the Z1000J. I don't have the papers but I think it should be from 1980,81 or 82? They seem almost the same as the KZ1000's ? Or maybe they are the same, I'm not sure.

I don't plan on keeping it stock either. I will be using this as a project in school so it might be a very slow process. It will also depend on the engines condition, and funds of course.

Thanks for checking it out.

Welcome. It's a start. You can try turning the crank with the 17mm nut on the right side of the engine. I'd put a little oil in the cylinders first. Pics of plugs?

Welcome! The manufacture date is usually on the headstock label, of coarse if it was built later in the year it's probably the next model year.

Is that a R80ST in the background?

Thanks a lot for the usefull info. I'll have to dig into it. Those websites will come in very handy.

I haven't got a lot of time to check the bike yet. I know I checked the plugs and they seemed ok, two of them a little dark as far as I remember but doesn't really say much.

I know I checked two of the cylinder walls with an endoscope real fast and as far as I saw they seemed ok too. I didn't have much time. This week I'll go further with this and see if I can get it to turn over. That would be good news!

@gpzmod750 no it's an r45 :) The only number I found was KZT 00j 002052. But now I can't remember if I found it on the frame or the engine. It's been two weeks since it was holidays for school. I googled that number and then it should be a Z1000J ? I know it has Z1000J written on the key hanger too.

That said, since its at school now, progress will be slow.

I think this model was only made from 81-82 or 83 at the latest.

Here's the 1981 model I had in 1982.

That's a nice bike, and picture!

I don't know about the years exactly, but you will probably be right. Soon I will find out when I get the papers. But I won't be needing them for a while though..

I'm glad I have that picture, it's really cool to look at it now I have another Kawasaki 1000 32 years later. That's my younger brother on the back he must have been 13 or 14 at the time, funny to think this time last week was his 47th birthday - how time flies, This is the one bike from my early days I should have kept.

As to the years, it likely depends on different markets and countries, as to exactly when the last ones were available, but by 1984 the GPz900 was out, which ended the reign of the big air cooled KZ's.
