Hello everyone...

Just saying hi to introduce myself.

Found myself an early KZ900 in a barn last week and will be undertaking a bobber or drag bike project here with it. Not sure which... lol

will be posting more info on project page here shortly.

Looking forward to learning lots from you guys!

Rob.

Are you positive it is a KZ900 and not a Z1 (they are both marked 900 on the side covers)? What year is the bike? I ask because if it is a Z1 it's worth $$$ so cutting on it would probably be a mistake. Ed

Common mistake. If it's a Z!, fix it up and buy what you want.

If it's a 75 Z1b, you have the best one. I'd restore it.

Judging by the front forks it looks like a Z1 to me, and if it is a 1975 model it is in fact a Z1! Kawasaki did not start making the KZ900 models until 1976. Do yourself a HUGE favor and do not cut anything. If you don't want a stock Z1 and/or don't want to shell out the $$ to restore it, you can sell the bike at a profit (since it seems the owner is unaware that he is selling a valuable bike) buy a much better candidate for your project, and probably have enough money left over to pay for the your complete project. I think you have lucked into a great buy! Ed

Just out of curiosity, what did you pay for it?

Hmmmm... this is interesting.

Is there anyway to confirm numbers? Ie.., any other serial numbers or distinguishing features to confirm orgin?

Like I said... bike was found sitting in shed for many many years and is missing parts, etc...

Thanks in advance.

Yes, and the frame number you provided shows it is a 1975 Z1-B (you lucky dog! ) Their frame numbers ranged from Z1F-47500 through Z1F-85700. See www.z1enterprises.com/Z1NumbersGuide.aspx
Here's a pic of what one looked looked like if un-modified. Ed

As Ed says, restore don't bob it. Turning it into a bobber will decrease its value. If you don't want to restore it, sell and maybe make some money.
