Reproduction speedo OEM replacement

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationAny one have any experience with these reproduction speedos? Seems like a good alternative to taking a gamble on a used one off eBay.

I had two of them. Both failed in 4000 miles.

My recommendation would be to buy one on ebay and send it to ZResto to be rebuilt.

Both the tach and speedo needles wag really bad.. they are both nearly unreadable. I read is an issue caused by the magnet losing strength that cannot be repaired. I’m not confident of any of the 40 year old examples I see on eBay even a NOS one for this reason.

I read through that thread Steve, good info there. Did you ever get the new batch of gauges?

Doc before You give-up on your existing instruments would you have any interest in an attempt to "possibility" rectify their misbehavior? Mikaw sent me a set that need to be done and I promised him a pictorial of each step thru this forum. I can use his as an example but don't want to hijack your text.

How do you solve the wagging issue?

The original gauges on my 1977 KZ650 still work fine after 62,000+ miles. Is it possible that the cables are the problem? Is there any way to test the gauges without using the cables. Ed

I am told that there are oil filled dampers inside the gauges and that when the oil eventually weeps out the needles will not hold still.

Cables are new. I seem to recall the manual saying you should always store the gauges upright. Perhaps this has to do with the oil .

I believe it does. I know when ZResto ships them he sits them upright.

I know the tach has a fluid damper... See photo of mine... I assumed the shading was sun fade, but asphalt900 told me it was fluid that had leaked out of the damper

I just had my gauges restored by ZResto and they look great, almost too nice to install. I may just mount them on a frame and put them over my fireplace mantel. I asked about the oil in the gauges and was told it wasn't a big deal if they weren't straight up and down for a short period of time. You really have no control over how the gauges are situated when they are shipped anyway. "This Side Up" to a worker bee means turn them over. Anyway, I am very happy with how my gauges look.
