Will this oil pressure gauge work?

Will this oil pressure gauge work? was created by cjaldous
I'm trying to measure my KZ650s oil pressure. The oil light comes on after about 30-40 mins of riding when I'm idling.
I want to measure the pressure before replacing anything.

I haven't found mention of the thread sizes for either the main oil passage plug or the oil sender switch.

Will this work? I believe it comes with 1/8 and 1/4" NPT fittings.

It should work. How do you plan on mounting it? Do you have a test port above the ignition cover?

I was just told that the sender threads are 1/8" BSPT and that a 1/8" NPT will probably barely fit, but I shouldn't wrench down too hard. I don't know if I have a test port, I'll check. I probably won't have room where the sender is anyway.

I don't plan on permanently mounting it. Probably strapping it somewhere with wire or some other kludgy method just so I can go for a test ride and monitor oil pressure.

I'll go ahead and get the gauge and to see what I'm dealing with.

Oil pressure is between 3-10 lbs on our bikes, ...I don't think you could get an, or any reading on that oil pressure gauge, ...look at the one kaw-a- holic is displaying, ...that's the kind you need

You could order one like ours on eBay. Higher pressure though. I have two. One down there and on on my dash. The lower one works all the time the other one doesn't. Too low pressure on the big Z's.
Jon, that gasket is ON there. No sealant?

As for the oil pressure gauge, look for one that is for motorcycles. You don't need anything that reads over 15 PSI.

Steve- yes the gasket is on there. I like to use copper coat on both sides of the gasket. Is it not needed?

The smaller bikes have higher pressure. Ours won't work for him. They have plane bearing lower ends.
I don't use sealant normally. If in doubt I will.

I reworked my oil pump. Instead of 3-10 PSI I have around 20 when cold. As much as 30 at Rev. It goes down as it heats up. Multi grade oil. I blew two Doremi gauges. I returned one and kept the other for the sexy plumbing fixture. This is a cheap Sportster gauge. 60 PSI. It works fine but the Bezel is plastic and is discoloring in the sun. I plan to repaint the case and get a better one soon.
